Adding a fan and light

Somewhere in the forums I read a post that referred to a similar situation to something I'm contemplating. I'm not an electrician, so pardon my ignorance if my terms are not those that are used in the trade.

I have a light fixture in the center of our bathroom, witha single switch wired in the usual manner, so nothing surprising here. I would like to power a fan (max 7 amps) with a drop from supply that is in the ceiling box. I'm also adding a light fixture to our new shower insert and was also going to get power from the same location, sort of.

My plan, to economize, was to take a power feed from the ceiling location and run it to the box for the light and then go from there to the fan. Each new device - the switch and the fan - have their own switch ( the fan has a digital timer)wired in the usual fashion.

From what I read in the other post,

http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/wiring/msg0717371413640.html?8

there is no problem taking power from my ceiling box for a fan or a light, but is there something than makes it bad practice to bridge the supply in the manner I've mentioned? As has been mentioned in the forums, it will electrically work, but is it a code violation?

Thank you
