Really Old RCA type looking receptacle

I've been doing this a very long time and I've never seen anything like this. I've looked around and can't find anything like it at all. Hoping maybe someone here has a clue.

We're doing a 100% full re-wire of an entire house. The house was built in 1930, and for the time it's a very large, high end house. (knob and tube of course). What I'm baffled about though is that in the main living room, there was a device that looked like female RCA jacks. There were two "jacks" vertical on the device yoke. The REALLY odd thing is that when I took it out, on one "jack" there was a neutral landed, and on the other there was a hot. Meaning it's some sort of 120v receptacle. Also that means there was 120v just sitting there exposed because the outside of the "jack" would have been energized.
I could tell it was an original install to the house and not some jerry rigged cobbed together thing that someone has done. Someone did try to put a cover over it, but the device itself was an actual electrical receptacle of some sort.
In the mix of things it's disappeared. I'm guessing one of my guys threw it away in the clean up and I can't find it to post a picture. I've been looking and looking at pictures of all the old style receptacles and can't find anything even close.
Any ideas?
