I wouldn't do anything permanent until you know both colors you want. Regrets for colors are too costly. Now I would just clean the gutters/roof, power wash the concrete, and keep looking at boards, postings and the best neighborhoods to can drive through. Get some great ideas there. reminds me of my first house. Also, in the meantime, add some floral color or holiday if you like. Ok, so honestly, I like the white and brick. I would also think about changing railing and paint door a real eye popping color. I just think it needs some landscaping. Yup , I think your home is adorable and I would love to come garden there.

Painted brick can be a hassle. So much easier to just leave it be.

HI --- I do not agree that painted brick is a hassle . Painted brick or stucco is fine if you use the right paint . We painted our stucco several years ago and it still looks great . No peeling , no stones have fallen out , and we have had some wicked hail storms . If you use a good quality masonary paint , there will not be any problems. They make such great paint products now . When you paint , have it sprayed on , easy to put on and better use of paint .We always buy a contractors 5 gal.pail which sprays an average 1000 sq.ft. house and maybe the double garage included.

I agree with Greengirl... I don't think color is the issue. Do a rigorous clean-up, some landscaping out front, and a new railing. My vote would be for a very light grey, which would look great with black and white accents, but just the clean-up could make it look like a new property.

Your front entry is just begging for a deck across the front that extends at least 3 feet beyond the roof and nice wide steps to welcome guests.

I agree with Dar Eckert. Also if $ permits I would add a gable portico above the door.

No. No gabled portico above the door. The house has a sheltering roof overhang; a portico would just interrupt the nice deep roofline.

Also no on painting the brick. Unless the brick is actually failing in some way, brick is considered a desirable housing siding BECAUSE it needs no maintenance, so by painting it, you are de-valuing one of the primary assets of your exterior. Of course, if you hate brick and bought a brick house anyway for some reason, and are planning to live there forever, go right ahead, but be aware that you are increasing the maintenance required by your house for the life of the house.

We love color on brick. How about staining the brick? Masonry stain looks like paint but lets you see the brick texture. Less maintenance than painting.

I love the stain idea! We have to do the siding because it has lead paint in it so we are doing an abatement. We went with Hardie plank and will paint it. We love brick but do not like the color of ours. I think we will go with charcoal stain and need to figure out the Hardie plank color and a door color.

I would not paint the brick, I agree it is a desirable siding on a house and not everyone likes certain colors we may choose. I would have the yard landscaped and put up new handrailing that makes the steps inviting. I would also paint the front door a nice bold color and paint the shutters maybe a charcol grey color because alot of bold colors go nice with grey, or just refresh the black color. Also would add a new contemporary porch sconce. Good Luck I would love to see updated pics!

Charcoal stain with a red brick could make it look very muddy. I recommend testing some combinations out before proceeding--perhaps in a sheltered corner in the back. A reddish brown could work well. What is it about the color you don't like? I think it is quite nice.
