I love the way the columns and ceiling treatment help define the dining area in an open concept plan...visual walls without actual walls to make the space feel small.

Beautiful examples. I love wood on ceilings. I'd like to see that last one (ceiling as art) in person.

Beautiful pictures. I've never seen some of them before. I've seen the starburst mirror on the ceiling before and for some reason it creeps me out, in an Exorcist kind of way.

I like many of them, but the oval one with the constellations is breathtakingly beautiful to me. I love the silver leaf too.

The one with all the framed pictures- to me it looks kind of silly.

I agree with marti8a that the sunburst mirror on the ceiling is creepy, as in the exorcist!

Since I had never thought of looking at ceiling decor on Russian interior design websites, I went and browsed a bunch of them. Tons of fun discoveries, although some would be rather outlandish for some (and me too!).

I love the daisy too! From the balcony railing visible in the window I surmise it's an apartment in an old building. Most likely circa 1900's or earlier. Those apartments tend to be dark and sometimes even gloomy. But the room looks bright and cheery thanks to the design and colors.

AnnieD: Another great thread. I look forward to seeing all the ideas. You are right about that one room that needed editing; the ceiling belongs in a much grander proportioned room.

I saw something recently here or at Houzz or somewhere else on high gloss painted ceilings (using FPE, of course). There is an example linked below.

Thanks for remembering, OB2B! No I haven't started the actual ceiling yet. I have been practicing on a practice board and decided I need a LOT more practice. I have good colors, but technique leaves a lot to be desired. DH says I am getting better though, which is encouraging.

It is great to see such a variety of ideas -- thanks. We have only 8 foot ceilings so it is helpful to those options that work for shorter ceilings.
