lighting??? trim???

We are remodeling our TINY kitchen. The L shaped cabinet design faces a blank wall with small closet (pantry). We currently have a small, end-folding table pushed against the wall so that we can eat-in kitchen as needed. I've tried looking at pictures on here and on-line but every kitchen I see is so gorgeous and doesn't exactly fit this tiny home of ours.

Lighting??? currently there is an UGLY long white halogen tube light thing above the sink and there is an UGLY PINK ceiling fan in the center of the room. Clearly both fixtures need to go but I have NO idea what to replace them with. We're working with a tight budget, but DH is an electrician so our choices are broadened by that aspect. THOUGHTS?

TRIM? The window above the sink is trimmed with a light wood color, as is the smaller window on one side of the room and the entire closet door is the same color and the enrty way into the living room is the same. The cabinets we ordered are a shade or two darker. Every kitchen pic I see has white trim, which I think would look gorgeous over the sink, but I think it would look awful leading into the wood stained living room trim...THOUGHTS?

Thanks a million for any guidance you can give me!!! Trying to make the best of our tiny situation!
