I appreciate everything my better half does but mostly that I never have to clean the bathtub, take out garbage, or wash floors.

He does very little. He will help if the job involves lifting, drilling or sawing which is rare as I hire help. I am truly grateful that at the same time that he has no opinion on decorating and prefers not to be consulted on such matters. Some of my friends have husbands that are WAY too involved in household decisions. That would drive me crazy.

He makes the bed every morning, cleans up after himself, does the yard work, is in charge of trash, helps clean the floors. I can't ask for much more! No really I can't, he doesn't know where our kitchen utensils go, so I just tell him to get out of the kitchen and leave me to it, lol.

He brings me coffee and the paper in bed every morning.

Sneaks into the kitchen & empties the dishwasher...then grins when I discover that the dishes are put away! And, he cleans the toilets! I, too, am *very* blessed and truly appreciate it!

My husband prepares my breakfast everyday, irons his shirts, does the groceries and makes dinner on weekends.

I admit, my hubby is pretty slobby. he used to believe that a job done well once never need doing again. He has always stood beside me though for the last 25.5 years. and since the day of infamy 11/21/11, he has brought me back from death, done things i would not have asked of my own mother - though she did some too. Has taken over all cleaning, even learned that he had to do somethings daily. Worked a hard full time day job, and provided the 4 fuzzy kids and i whatever we needed on a daily, sometimes hourly basis. If i am never blessed with another miracle, I think i will believe i have done well. although, between you and me, i am happy i can cook more.

Can't really pinpoint just "one thing". Because of my job and its crazy hours, my hubby does just about anything and everything chores-wise around the house plus makes dinner every night.....just so that when I'm home I can relax, Houzz/focus on our design projects and, most importantly, spend time with our kiddos. Over the last year or so, that was in addition to him taking a ton of classes in order to complete certifications (to help further his career).

Now that he's back to work, he still somehow figures out a way to do the majority of it all. And (though his work day starts earlier than mine) he still finds time to make my coffee every morning....and along with it, leaves the sweetest, most thoughtful notes....each and every day. ❤️

There are so many times I catch myself taking for granted all he does. But truly, our kids and I are so blessed to have such a giving and loving man in our lives.

    loads the dishwasher!

LOL nnigrt - my hubby unloads the dishwasher.....mega brownie points for doing so!

when my husband unloads the dishwasher things are either in the wrong place or else left on the counter...mixed blessing...

nnigrt - that's so funny. That's what my hubby does.

Also, he doesn't like me loading the dishes (which I do of course to get them off the counter). he has it down to a science where they go and really "loads" the dishwasher.

if i load he moves everything around. every time. we have a deep sink, so i just pile everything in while i cook and he sorts it out after dinner.

He can fix anything!! Changes the sheets, the seat is always down, does the.mopping & ironing, always says thank you when I cook & tells me every day that he loves me and I'm beautiful (I tell him he's blind) says I'm right and means it. After 3 neck operations & still chronic pain he knows when i'm miserable and takes care of me. AND he opens doors. So much luckier the 2nd time.

My mother has often told me over the years that she would not tolerate some of the strange things that have gone on in my kitchen. I did try her way in the beginning, but if you want people to help or even care for themselves, there has to be some give and take, no? I have found that if you have a clear definable technical reason for why sharp knives have to stay down facing people do listen.

Now when my son left home, my hubby requested matching china. Odd how they forget how much they break! I spent a few years building up a large set (about 30 place settings) of blue and white settings, all different styles. And to be clear, i have replaced many pieces of it since then, without the help of my son. But if you just remember that nothing lasts forever, it is easier to deal with, and looking at how much you get in return makes it worth every bowl!

I've already answered this, but after thinking about it longer, there is one thing that my husband does, and has from the very beginning:

he brings down his clothes and towels and puts them in the correct laundry basket. Maybe it wasn't such a big deal when it was just us newlyweds, but our 3 kids have ALWAYS done the same! Little kids learn best by being shown examples of what we want them to do, and this was proof.

Nothing. Not one thing. He does absolutely nothing, and he would do even less, if he could. The most he does is cut the lawn because he loves a neat lawn. But all the back-breaking, hard, manual donkey-work? I do that. I even take the grass-clipping box off the mower and empty it. "Why are you still with him?" I hear you ask... Goodness me, why indeed....

He is supportive of everything I do or want to do. He believes in me. Never complains when I have to work instead of spending time with him. Never questions how I manage our finances (I HATE arguing about money!). And he generally appreciates what I do for him, (like having him do quality control on recipes I concoct). He never gets impatient when I ask questions about electrical or football (I have learned SO much from him about football, which I love). He makes me laugh, he loves our cats, and I am always his first priority.

Evanes you must have really had to let that out. maybe you should go meditate more?

Fold a fitted sheet perfectly(i can't tell the difference between flat and fitted when he folds them.) It's like a magic trick to me!

He lets me be me! All of me. We are a team. Very good for each other. When we married, he continued to do his own laundry, and still does. We aren't perfect but we are content.
I used to complain about him, and there was A LOT to complain about, trust me. But since we've been divorced, I miss the dozens of wondrous little things he did and was. Six years out of the divorce, I'm happy I can say that and really mean it. (Not that I want him back, mind you.)

Jack of all trades, master of all =)

havingfun, it's meditating keeps me sane... *wink*

arvilla_trag gosh, you don't need to tell me! I know, I know, I'm a darned fool, the tragic thing is, I do so love him. he has some stirling qualities, and an admirable mind. He is stimulating and thought-provoking, and my being with him is all my fault. And I'm not staying out of any blind impression that "he needs me" or "I'm sure I can change him". Forget that. I'm in this with my eyes wide open, and every move I make is a choice, that's for sure. I had a very long talk with his Doctor, and, while not revealing anything due to Patient Confidentiality, he strongly agreed with my own personal perception and diagnosis that he's a 'Passive-aggressive narcissist with some sociopathic tendencies'. I've even told my H that I think that's an accurate assessment - and he agrees, for goodness' sake. So I moan, complain and rant. But I know that this guy is my own personal challenging teacher, and that the worse he gets, the better I can use the opportunity to practice.... He came my way for a reason - even if that reason is all in my mind, and a folly to consider, it's still there. This is my current 'bed'. Up to me to either lie in it - or make it again.

    @Evanescent soul - well, there's always being a cougar. ;-)
I think we teach people how to treat us. What would happen if you chose 3 things you really don't like to do and just stopped doing them? Tell him you would like him to help you by doing these from now on.

i was taught that some of us are just injured souls and the sharks among us, just sniff us out.

@Evanescent soul - seriously, look at the postings by others, they are proof that there are good, kind, men out there who are actual PARTNERS, not just dead weight. I do not question that you love your man (God knows I understand loving someone toxic), but I wonder if you love YOU? If you don't love yourself enough to insist on being treated well, it simply will not happen.

Loving someone is not always enough. It does not sound like you are getting anything beneficial from this relationship. Don't you deserve to be respected, valued and treated well? If the answer is "no", you need a shrink; if the answer is "yes", you need a lawyer.

As women we are often taught we have to put up with whatever crap we are handed. That is simply not true. When I left my first husband at the ripe old age of 34 (similar situation to yours), my own father told me that I better reconsider because I would soon lose my looks and have trouble finding another man. Fortunately, I did not buy into the BS, and now have a wonderful husband.

This is not a dress rehearsal, it is the only life you get. You are the only one responsible for your own happiness. If you are not happy, it is up to you to make whatever changes are necessary to make yourself happy. Like pulling a bad tooth, it might hurt in the short term, but in the long run you will be better off. It may even open his eyes to what a gift you are.

evanes, you seem like one who thinks, as such, if you are like me at least, you like to learn from every encounter. i did. every relationship was adding to my knowledge of what i needed and wanted. with my first husband, we knew each other 3 months and it lasted 10 years, and no one believed we were divorcing. we had so many traits that dove tailed, but he was cold and self centered and really had never wanted children. At 33, I married my second husband after going through a mile of men, who all had more children than i and paid all their salary to child support and thought i should send theirs to private school or yank mine out. and how well did i cook? was it my car? my house? I married 7 years my junior and it has lasted 26 years. My point is, do you really want your only life lesson to be this? I find the older i get the more my only lesson is i do not want to be them. or with them.

I have come to the conclusion that I am seriously derailing this thread, which is grossly unfair to the OP, and disrespectful of me. That is my fault and I apologise. I will send private messages to those who have been kind, compassionate and thoughtful enough to respond to my comments here (if you have messaging available. For those who don't, I would if I could! :D).

    I will not derail further.

However, I am grateful and thankful for your responses, and wish continued blessings and happiness upon those whose testimonies have been upbeat, positive and happy. May you all be blessed for years to come with as much love and happiness as you now recount.

What a nice, positive discussion thread :)

My love and I don't yet live together. He is with his parents, caring for his mother who suffers from advanced Alzheimer's. So, to say he has a LOT on his plate is an understatement.

He's very clean and tidy and does everything for his parents. Picking one thing he does for me -- before I use the restroom in their home, he wipes down and lowers the seat for me! What can I say, he's very detail oriented :D

When I offer to help cook or wash dishes, he often says he prefers that I sit and relax, that makes him happy! I am truly blessed!

My husband is wonderful about doing the dishes. After a meal, even just after coffee in the morning, the next time passing the sink- he has already done the coffee cups. It was one of my most disliked jobs & when I married this man he has no problem with just quickly getting them out of the way! I immediately return to bedroom & make the bed knowing that those are some of the main things that can make your home looks better quickly. I don’t mind wash, never have- we both have different little things that seem like a chore done for each other.

I know it's an old thread, but while we're stuck with each other, it's a good time to remember why we married. Hard to say one thing. He's brilliant, a DIYer, outstanding dad and he makes me laugh. The kids are out and now and we just look at each other, it's a beaitiful thing that I love what I see.

My husband loves to cook. He makes excellent meals and has done all the grocery shopping since we’ve been in lock down. I hate doing both so double win for me! Plus I just like being with him. 35 years. He keeps me moving. I keep him grounded.

He does a lot everyday. But one thing that I absolutely love is water our plants. He remembers the last time he did it, and makes sure he doesn’t miss the next date.

He can fix most anything; just like my dad did! When he's good and ready though; just like my dad.
