Entryway Flooring Dilemma

Due to water damage we are having to replace the floor in our entrance way, along with a new front door but that is a separate project. The new floor will have to go from the door to the end of the walls. The hardwood we have is not available, we have found shades similar but it just won't work. It looks like we are going with tile & I myself do not know how this will look or what color to go with, colors to stay away from....I have always wished my entrance was more "separated" but I'm not sure how this will go. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise....one can dream! Any suggestions on colors or patterns, ect. I am all ears!

We used cork tile in our entry way. It also looks great with hardwood and there are all sorts of patterns and colours to choose from. It has survived rain, sleet and snow for a couple of years now and still looks great. The floor was sealed when we first put it down. In the winter we do use a mat for snowy boots.

I love yours, I also love your darker wood! Yes I'm going to have a rug I think the tile we are looking at is the high end linoleum (LV?) I probably need to post a shot of what the entrance leads into, basically our LR and I definitely want to frame it out, there are many, many projects that are on our to do list. I could go on for days, ha! But for now picking this out is first. I'm not sure how well it shows in the pics but our floor is shiny with an orange like tint

I should have added this is something I have to decide on like, oh yesterday! We have a horribly outdated fireplace that is in our LR with a light cream tile & my husband just mentioned that we need to maybe match it...umm no.

I would go with tile. More durable for an entryway.

And no on matching fireplace tile lol

I love the varying colors like nansdrew showed. Charcoal slate of freeform shapes would also be most beautiful. Please do not do the cream tile matching the fireplace like your hubby wants. Stone is always a good entryway with a texture so it isn't slippery. Do it dark like nansdrews.

You can go with limestone, travertine, or a slate. I would go to a tile store. Your possibilities are really endless. I like travertine or limestone as they are timeless classics and will never date itself.

We actually already have a flooring company we are working with and the have a lot to choose from but my husband is asking or rather begging I go with the LV bc of the price difference although I have yet to double check that.
No, no on the white. Don't worry that's actually another project on our novel of s list. I have thought about staining it actually or rather have someone do it. I can do a lot myself but that's something I'd rather have a professional do!

Got a few samples to look at. I'm wondering if this one is too "busy" and should I look for a more sold color? My brain is in overload, don't ya just hate that?!
I do think that's maybe a little busy. I'm also a fan of tile in the entry (where snowy shoes can enter) so I also have a tile entry that then meets hardwood.

I think a nice bench with storage underneath would look nice and be useful!

Horselover yes I have furniture that I moved to get a better visual of the floor.

Which also brings up another idea I have. One wall has the thermostat and the vent for our air/heat so beautiful to see right? Lol I was thinking of a large leaning mirror on that wall but I'm not sure how difficult that would make it to access them
  • 11 years ago
I don't know about a mirror there to cover that up?? It would be awkward there I think!

This is more brown but they also have it in a charcoal color
  • 11 years ago
Ooh I think the charcoal would look nice!

    This one is nice!

That you have to replace your floor... is that just speculation or have you had a pro examine it? Of course I don't know the extent of the water damage, but maybe it can be sanded and refinished? I'm by no means an expert on water damage, but I figured to suggest it in case you haven't thought about it and you don't want to part with it.

Yes, I've actually had two people come out and I'm not an expert in this area either so if I word it incorrectly I apologize, lol but long story short...very long...our home was built like a kid builds a Lego house and sadly it wasn't noticed until it was too late. We had our front door replaced and a new roof put on a few years ago after a bad hail storm and the guy who did it seriously screwed up bc we have had issues with water getting in and that's finally been fixed but my front door is probably going to have to be replaced as well. It's a nightmare, I always wanted my entryway to "stand out" so maybe this is a good thing...I'm not sure.
