When we had our new countertop installed about a year ago, I got talking to the installer about kitchen remodels and the like. Somehow Ikea cabinets came up and he said people would be surprised if they could see how quickly they fall apart, usually within five years. This was based on his experience going into homes installing countertops and backsplashes. I don't have Ikea cabinets so I don't have a dog in the fight. That was just a passing comment from someone who sees a lot of cabinets in his line of work.

I have not ever used IKEA cabinets, but I have been pleasantly surprised by the level of customer satisfaction with them in Houzz discussion posts on this subject. Many contractors and other pros dismiss their quality, but I have to say if I were trying to put together a stylish kitchen on a tight budget (and doing some of the work myself) I would definitely consider IKEA.

Ok, number 1: there is a boycott on Ikea for locking out workers in Richmond, BC and 2: northern Ontario? ... I'm betting you have a Canadian Tire close to you and we have bought many different types of cabinets from them. Jysk is the best spot, they have lots of well thought out and real wood cabinets, buffets, cabinets, etc and are very affordable. There is always the mail order route too and probably lots of choices here in Houzz shops. Good luck.

Good looking cabinets,very poorly put together.they have a very short life span.

I have used IKEA cabinets and custom cabinets in kitchen reno's and if you have the budget I think custom is better, but if you do not plan on living in your house for at least 15 years IKEA cabinets should stand up to normal wear and tear and are much cheaper. It really depends on why you are doing the reno, how the rest of your kitchen is finished, flooring, countertops, lighting etc. If you can save thousands on the cabinets and spend that other places it is worth thinking about.

I installed ikea cabinets in my last house and I plan to have them in my next house that will hopefully start building soon. I was very satisfied with the hardware (hinges and drawer slides) and the overall quality of the boxes was better than others in the same price point. I had the birch wood doors custom painted. I will probably just order custom doors from scherr's for our next kitchen. I wish they would update the door selection.

Our house had a 20 year old particleboard kitchen that had no issues other than being outdated. They were probably considered really bad quality by the pros but they sure held up with no issues. I think the ikea cabs are better than what was there so they should be good for at least 30

Here are my white shaker (birch painted) ikea cabinets with stainless appliances and a medium brown floor. The cabinet doors were not adjusted.
