The placement of the trim on the walls makes it hard to suggest what to put up as far as art goes......Looks like you would have to place most of it above the trim and that would look awkward and too high in my opinion. Does the trim have to stay?

Oh yes, the height of the trim was debated for months and yes, it has to stay. You know, hindsight...I know I can make this work despite! Lowering it didn't work either - it's a familiar shape and ceiling height but interestingly odd too posing such challenges. Thanks for any ideas ;)

Having only two walls with the chair rail feels odd and I would add to the others as well. I would move the lamp and place a set of prints (see picture) between the two chairs. Once you add drapery, you won't need anything on that wall. Above the tv, just rest the dream decoration as close to the rail as you can and pull the chair out a bit and place the lamp there. I would not have placed the chair rail at this height, as it makes it harder to decorate walls. [houzz=]

Thank you for the idea - we already did the painting twice and want to stay with wall colors AS IS. The blue was too weird with the ceiling for us and how the kitchen is. We also are going to redo all bottom and window casements to white trim. I just now need to accessorize and add fabrics to windows.

The two chairs and ottomans are pinstriped blue/white.

Thank you for your ideas ladies. There really are THREE walls with this chair rail. The fireplace wall just seemed weird with the blue and chair rail so I only made that one the off white so the fireplace could be the focal point (which also needs serious accessorizing on the shelf). I have seen Sarah Richardson's work before and did like her work and will now look more for ideas.

Sorry to burst your bubble but the chair rail was a mistake, at least in its current position. The previous look was better and gave full appreciation to your high ceilings!

Not every wall needs something on it, as is the case with your walls and colors. I would add tall vases with pussywillows or twigs where you can to bring the two levels together.
