I want a rectangular dining table that seats 12 people, how long does it have to be?

    You need about 1 1/2 to 2 feet to seat a diner comfortably, so a table about 9-10 feet long would work for 12. Pedestal tables can accommodate guests better since there's no leg to get in the way.
    How large is your room? The table should fit nicely in the room and be able to be extended with leaves to 10 feet when necessary. Also make sure that you have at least 3 feet of space all around so diners can comfortably get seated without hitting a wall or other furniture.
