Oooops, I thought that was a bathroom vanity. Is that all they have given you??? Can you give more details of room size and layout? Photos would help to gain some perspective.

Whoa, there is absolutely no room for anything there and the way the cupboard has been placed it restricts you extending it.

Love a challenge. I'm thinking upper cabinets on bathroom wall, open shelves above sink, shelf for microwave under hanging cabinets, left side and a moveable bar and stools parallel to existing cabinet.

Forgot about a frig, maybe a counter height frig under the microwave in the island?

With a condo that's 226 sq. ft., you'll indeed have to make the most of every square inch. Closed cabinets above your kitchen countertop will make the space seem even smaller, so I suggest open shelving. Ikea stores show a variety of small whole house spaces so I would pay them a visit for ideas.

Small can be great if planned well. I agree with checking out the sites listed above. Do your home work before anything else.

I'd go Ikea style and the the wall space above the counter for your kitchen needs. Chk out Ikea kitchens for ideas.

While this small condo of 226 sq. ft. is probably in Europe, San Francisco is considering lowering the minimum dwelling size from 290 sq. ft. to 220 sq. ft. So we may some day be getting this kind of query from Californians. I don't know what the minimum size is in NYC, but I think it must be quite small there too.

Carolyn, I just saw that on the news last week. The biggest problem in SF is the parking, so if you put even more people in a concentrated area, how is that going to help???

The "kitchen" area does not seem to have any electrical outlets. Even if there is just a fridge and a microwave or hot plate, the owner will need electricity. I'm curious as to what country would issue a building permit for such an arrangement.

Also for fire safety, I sure hope there's a window in the bedroom area.

Bobbi, it would be super to be able to walk to work in San Francisco where one would not arrive a sweaty mess as would happen much of the year if you did such a thing here in Austin.

Carolyn, that's true! Rarely can you not wear at least a sweater in SF. A not widely known fact about SF is that if you're going to visit, do it in October. That's when the temp is the warmest, kids are back in school and it is so much less crowded. The sun actually shines in SF in October!

It was all about the possibility of this happening in SF. At the time I raised concerns about infastructure as we went through a phase here where someone had the bright idea of cramming more people into areas to bring building costs down (like developers are really going to do that) but not a thought was given to parking, public transport, utilities, etc. etc. It wasn't just parking around the apartments either it was the flow on effect for local shopping centres that are already struggling to cope and the extra traffic on already clogged roads.

we have the same problem because we have a similar unit :) i'm thinking of installing a narrow bar but i don't know if I should install it perpendicular or parallel to the sink
