beverlynn that main tile is very inexpensive. You can find similar ones at Home Depot. They were less than $3 psf.

Remember that field tile is only a small portion of the cost. The most expensive elements are the fancy trim pieces so if you can minimize those by using a couple of rows of glass mosaic tiles instead of liner tile, you can cut the cost.

My suggestion is to work very hard to find a good installer before you buy the tile (if you don't already have one or are going DIY) A tremendous part of the final look is the quality of the installation work, both in actually placing the tile and in the layout of the tiles and trim. If you find the right installer but don't like the price, you can try to negotiate a bit but in the end, a high quality installation will make even cheap tile look good.

Depending on your budget, have you considered a combination of decorative glass tile with ceramic? This would be a nice balance of affordable ceramic tile with a contemporary glass tile insert.

Linda, I do plan to find an installer. I don't have the time or desire to DIY. I hadn't thought about the combination of mosiac glass tile with the ceramic. I know there is some really pretty glass out there! Thanks to both of you!

Beverlynn: don't be afraid of adding a little color in your trim tile.

I won't be afraid to add color! My house is neutral with splashes of color/brights through artwork and accessories (i.e. red lampshades). Thanks Home Maintenance! That is really nice!

I second Stoneshop. A Crema Marfil is a rich, warm color that would still pull off the neutral look. A travertine would be great as well. You could go with polished or a more natural texture. With marble, you could go either with tile or a single surface shower wall to avoid grout.

Since you are redoing the shower think about putting in a few niches. Corner shelves are out of date now with niches replacing them. I would put more than one in places they won't get wet. Make sure you make it tall enough for your shampoo and other products you use in the shower. These are really nice.

since you are substituting a tub for a shower try the redi-tile shower pan made to go exactly over a tub. I have used them and it is a good product

I would put beige tiles for the floors.Paint the walls mocha to add a nice relaxing feel to it:)
