Great idea to make your space work better for you. It would be a good idea to coordinate the chairs at your island with the chairs you put in the new conversation area, and those will then both coordinate with your granite. You can get by with pattern on both, as long as they have the same colors as your granite, flooring, and the table. Coordinate your new lighting with the rustic finish of your table, and perhaps, make sure it is on a dimmer. Very nice!

oh, thank you, yes I really do want a dimmer..low lighting if just hanging out in front of fire...yes, coordinating them would give a very complete look! I'll keep looking!

There's a lot of pattern going on, but if you like it the room is certainly grand enough to support it. You may want to anchor the lounge area with a solid round rug in a deep tone to break up the flooring.

Actually - can you just swap these armless ones for the wing chairs from that adjacent room? Then you can carry the color/pattern from the kitchen into another room, and the wing chairs create shelter to keep the lounge area cozy.

If the chair is a bargain you can't resist, it will work if it has to, but it just feels too modern for your (beautiful) kitchen and slipper chairs are not the most comfortable. What about wicker and they can be purchased second hand if need be and painted (I painted mine dark brown and they look great). They would be very comfortable for lounging but work at a dining table as well and add great cushions. I would paint your island chairs black and save a ton of money and would compliment the wicker and blend with the 2 other bar stools also - spend the money on the other chairs. Agree-chair doesn't clash but style doesn't work. Like metal for pendants and bar chairs. No Tiffany lamp. Beautiful home.

Love your new table. I would go with more cozy, rustic chairs for both your sitting area and kitchen counter (be sure your seats for the counter are high enough). Add a nice organic rug. Here are some ideas for the look i would consider...

What do you think about this chair? Not the upholstery but probably a gold color and a solid..not to clash with the island. May look for another table..this does not seem stable..would like something chunky and heavy...but a pedestal. ideas? My kitchen pic's are added in the beg of this blog...
