New Construction Master Bathroom..

So we are waiting to break ground (IF THIS SNOW WOULD FINALLY STOP!!!) and of course the wife and I have been talking about the plans.. We always wanted a corner whirlpool tub but after talking I think we are both starting to realize that even if we put in the tub it will not be what we really wanted due to the layout of the house.. We always wanted to walk into the master bathroom and have the corner tub as the focal point, however with the way we wanted the rest of hte house it just didn't work out.. As it stands right now the architect has the corner tub behind the door when you open the bathroom door.. On top of it not being what we had in our minds, we also realized that the corner tub is not going to get much use as we had originally thought.. After talking it over we are thinking of swapping out the current setup and switching places for tub and shower.. We are thinking of doing a standard style tub (flat against wall) and doing a bigger corner shower.. I feel like we would get more use out of a bigger shower stall.. If I did the calculations right we should be able to do a 5x6 shower stall with a slanted entry... Of course this would also mean moving the window which I am hoping wont be too big of a problem.. Just wanted to get some opinions on what you guys think.. Appreciate any input..

I agree with your decision. Just plan the shower plumbing carefully so you make maximum use of that big shower.

Are you bath people or shower people? I would split the difference a little more. What are you going to do in that giant shower? I'd probably get a bigger - 5.5 or 6 foot whirlpool tub and make a shower a little smaller. Getting that giant whirlpool tub of your original design seems like it would take way too much water on a daily basis but a smaller whirlpool may satiate your whirlpool instincts leaving you room for a large but not giant shower.

Thanks for the input.. We are definitely more shower people.. Granted that currently we don't have a tub, but I can't imagine that we would use one all that often.. If anyone is going to use the tub it will be the wife.. The problem is that we currently have a 4'10" x 2'8" shower and it is way too small.. I am a bigger guy and with the current shower I am banging elbows on the glass and wall.. Nevermind if two of us are in the shower.. At that point we are squeezing by each other and its just a mess.. Would like to have a shower that has more then enough room to move around when both of us are showering together.. And being that we are not "tub" people I figured why waste all that space on a corner tub that looks nice when we can get a bigger shower that will not only look nice but actually get used..

We had a 5'x5' neoangle shower in our last house and it was a nice size without being gigantic. We did bump elbows when we both used it at the same time.

I think your proposed change is a good one.
