pruning a L'il BIG apple

last modified: 11 years ago

What can I say? I was greedy. I wanted several fruit trees where only one dwarf would grow and since I am 71, I wanted the shortest tree possible and a taste before I leave this world!

Since purchasing them I have read about the cons of smaller and smaller fruit trees. But it's too late. I planted two last year (a Liberty and a Sweet Sixteen) and they have survived.

My question is do the miniature dwarf apple trees need special pruning? I can't find any discussions about the proper structure for such a mutant. Can these wimpy trees support branching ?

Thank you for any advice. Please keep chastisement to one paragraph or less!
