I'd keep the 3 on the left, getting rid of the furry one. Is there any way to lower all the art on the wall? Here's an example of how high they should be hung:

Thank you for the prompt response. The artwork was hung when we had a different couch with a higher back. I'd prefer to leave the artwork rather than do the patching and relocating just for staging.

The pillows on the couch are examples of thoughts. We had not considered mixing them but that could be an option.

It will pay off to rehang the art lower. I like the pillow that is 2nd to the left. Get another one to add to the other side of the sofa & put the lumbar (narrow one) horizontally on the chair.

I like the patterns on the three pillows to the left. Perhaps going with a pale color similar to the blue patterned pillow would be good since the artwork is bright in color.

If you must, just lower only the two outside ones closer to the back of the sofa. You want to sell the house.

I would pull out the bright yellows and blues I see in some of the artwork to brighten up that very dark couch. Also tuck a throw down the center to break up the large expanse of brown and lower the artwork or perhaps add a couple of small framed mirrors to brighten it up. Remove the small black chair, add a coffee table (preferably glass to avoid more dark colors) and you should have an inviting seating area for prospective buyers to envision themselves in. It is definitely worth your while to lower your art work, I like the furry pillow, (you need some different textures) stack it behind the red print on one side, other print at opposite end of sofa, lumbar pillow horizontal in chair. I think you need to break up your sofa and chair being lined up. Maybe across the room with a side table. Glass coffe table with some fresh flowers and a couple of magazines, give it a welcome feeling.

As pretty as the patterned pillows are, I think they are more traditional than the look of your sofa and pictures. You want the artwork to be the focus here. Patterned pillows fight for attention. I'd go with one solid color for your pillows, perhaps one of the bold colors from your artwork. Bright blue or Teal? Keep it calming. Your artwork defiantly needs to be lowered. Put the big one in the center and flank it with the other 2 medium sized ones. The little piece should not be there. Less is more. I would put a lovely throw on the chair and center your floor lamp between the couch and chair. For staging, it doesn't have to be functional.

Sympathize with not wanting to repair and patch the wall. But agree that it'll make a big difference to not have the large gap. What about getting two NEW pieces and hanging them in the blank spaces. They don't have to be anything special, nor specially framed.

Maybe even try lowering the larger picture in the middle? Pillow on the left is nice - maybe add a throw that same rusty/red color also. Can you post a couple more pictures of the room?

Play with your art and the nails on the wall and get it lower so the room will look in proportion.

Odd number of pillows with some layering if possible. Choose the pillow that goes with the most colors already in the room and adjoining spaces.

If staging for sale, you must remove your personal fingerprint from the home. That would mean removing family photos, which you seem to have above the sofa. Art above the sofa should have the bottom of frames 5" above the sofa back. Pillows as shown don't relate to anything else in the space. Go with something simple, clean and one or two colors - no pattern if new art has pattern.

I agree with the above who said lower artwork or replace and hang and eye level. If you don't replace only keep the 3 larger pieces and remove the small one. (And yes, always fix nail holes) If you must add pillows to the couch (this type of sofa looks odd with accent pillows), only use two flanking each end- or like the photo doctornancy provided -perfect example with the artwork and everything. You want balance...a space that makes sense, and feels comfortable. Too high artwork throws off balance.

Also, when staging you are not "Decorating" so I would not add throws to the couch or chair. Good idea to ask your realtor for a staging consultation. Best of luck on your sale!

Dr. Nancy has the spot on advice. Most top sales agents in our area provide clients with design consultations and many offer staging. The existing artwork is way too hung too high and too much so will distract buyers. One large painting looks better with the sofa. Go for solid color and texture for pillows when dealing with leather. In staging, less is more to get great photos.

Not in love with any of them but if I had to pick one it would be the middle left one. You also need to lower your artwork above the sofa you're not alone most people hang it to high

I look at a lot of homes and different decor especially the new model homes interest me a lot to see the ideas that they use


I know in deciding to buy a home there are a few things you can do to up your chances for a quick sale

First off lighting
Open windows turn lights on even during the day it shows cleaner

And not a lot of stuff


A couple of nice pieces and maybe a coffee table with some books spread across


Picture the room as you walk in yourself
What catches your eye the most?

If it's space go for a look that makes space seem larger

A cozy room that feels relaxing to lol at and makes a person feel like they could just sit down and read a book

Not a lot of artwork and it should be lowered even moved around

I know you don't want to patch but you will need to when you sale the house anyway

Look into special picture holders that you won't need to put any hikes in the wall

With brown sofa and yellow walls I think I would go with accents with oranges greens blues

Pull from colors that are in your art work to make the colors pop more

Sometimes a little extra work can make the difference between getting a good sle for the price you want and quickly

It's really a big investment and you want to get the most from your investment .
It will be worth it after the sale and hi get what you want from your investment
