your house doesnt look like a good candidate for dormers, it looks too comfortable and low.

What about turning the middle section into something similar to this? The front door would not be centered, so that would be different......

If you need the extra space or light, then consider the back elevation. Adding dormers just as an update will not work unless the original style of the house is considered. It is a house with emphasis on the horizontal. I wouldn't fight it, but work with.
If you really want to change the house style, then be prepared to spend a lot to get it right.

Dormer windows or skylight, something should be added. The roof looks a bit dull and overwhelming.
