Not all pocket door hardware is created equal. Much of it is poorly made and just plain doesn't work (most of which is sold through the big box DIY stores). If you're prepared to pay for quality and function, I would recommend looking at hardware made by Halliday Baillie, Linnea, Sugatsune, to name a few.

I just ordered one from a company called Accurate Lock and Hardware, who I chose over some of the others mentioned (who are good) because I wanted a split finish, one of which was satin brass and not offered by a lot of companies).

Be prepared to pay a lot for a good one.

A standard Deltana pocket door privacy pull can be had for about $12. Split finish $23. I used this in the basement bath.

I paid $448 for the Accurate Lock and Hardware one, (with a designer discount). I did an extensive search and I wasn't able to find much at all at prices in between, especially with finish options.

But the Deltana would not be good enough for a lock that will be regularly used, in my opinion.

The locking mechanism is where the standard hardware usually falls down.
