How many windows do you have? Can we see a shot of them? And what colour are your walls (name and brand)? Are you just considering panels or do you need blinds as well?

I'm not an interior designer, but have you looked at Guildery.com at all? They put together foolproof "design kits" with color coordinated fabrics, and they create all kinds of accessories in those fabrics (including draperies, ottomans, and pillows). You could start by finding a "design kit" with one (or both) of the colors of your rug and go from there. They even suggest coordinating paint colors. Even if you don't find what you're looking for, it might be a good place to get some ideas of what might work for you.

(full disclosure: I don't work for Guildery, but they sell some fabrics my company has designed.... I still think they are an outstanding service and want to pass on the info).

wickedwhite: Thank you for your message! The size of the rug was recommended by a designer at Furnitureland South which is where we bought all the pieces you see in the picture. I do believe a bigger size would have been better :(

We have a total of 9 windows: three you can see in the picture above and six in the corner, picture below. The walls are builder grade, beige. However I thought I'll choose the new color after I choose the drapes therefore tie it all together. No blinds, just curtains is what we'd like.

Wow! Nine windows is a lot. Thanks for posting the floor plan and photo. Can you post another that doesn't cut off the top of the windows? And it would be great if you could post a pic of all three walls.

The rug size can be worked with try turning the rug 90 degrees then get another rug for the foreground with a hardwood break in between.

Drapes last a long time which color do you like best in the room. Myself I would go with the yellow color of the rug but others might pick the brown or grey or white. It needs to be a color that you will like a long time. If you are talking curtains then they are more easily replaces and I would still go with the yellow but I like yellow.

Here is a picture with almost all the windows. Forgive the rocking chair, and the trunk, that's temporary.

How were you imagining drapes in the alcove? You don't have much (any?) wall space between the window frame and the adjoining wall. If you do panels, they will cover most of the outer windows. Is that what you had in mind?
Do you have blinds in the living room? I'm seeing something in a fan shape on the lower windows..?

Now that I have seen all the windows I would do the windows down by the door in matchstick blinds or something like that and then use the on the ones in living area pulled up (so the would all match) and then put side drapes on those. Treat as two rooms.

Thank you for your message wickedwhite. I thought the rods should be installed right under the crown molding to create hight; a continuous corner rod with separated panels between the windows to create an illusion of a bigger window for the arcade; while the other three windows will have single rods :) . What do you think? Refer to the picture below:

katsok, do you think separating the living room are into two areas would be a better idea? I thought if I treat it as one, it would look bigger, that's why I placed the sofa perpendicular to the TV/fireplace instead of parallel to it, to avoid cutting the room in two.

Also attached is a picture of our dinning room in case there are any suggestions for window treatments in tat area. I guess what I am trying to say here is that I want an easy flow from living to kitchen/dinning without dramatically separating the rooms by curtains yet avoid having everything match exactly...

It looks better now that you've rotated the rug. Have you ever tried floating the sofa in the middle of room so that it faces the TV and putting one chairs where your sofa is now? It would give you better access to those nice windows.

retroearth thank you! I did try putting the sofa that way but I felt as if the room was cut in half. So yes, I have a lot of dilemmas haha
