What furniture do you have? Set that up, and see how you like it. As you live with the home, you'll get a feel for what you don't like and what you want. Give yourself time to bring your personality to the room.

Those drapes seem very overwhelming but I bet they look great in the room at night with low light. Live with them for a month before getting rid of them.

No not opposed to paining, we painted so many other rooms I thought I could make this work with white furniture but then I thought that was too modern with the drapes and I am getting rid of the area rug too.

The wall color is fine if you like it but the curtains won't work with modern design. Happy new house!

Thank you everyone , I already have gray in a number of my other rooms ... I did not purchase any furniture yet. I was putting this room in hold as I couldn't figure out what to do with it. I appreciate so many different styles and I thought maybe I could make it work but maybe I cant , lol

Take down the drapes and repaint. I don't think the wall color is a good choice with your wood floors. Do not buy furniture to go with a color on a wall. Buy furniture and then choose colors.
