Howdy to all you Rocky Mountain folks. . . I cant believe I didn't find you sooner. I have been on GW for years and years and YEARS and never visited this forum. . . sounds like a nice bunch of fellas here, (some forums have a lot of *know it alls* that have a tendency to be less than polite. . .) I enjoy the info I find here and look forward to interacting with you folks on a regular basis. . . GW has been my saving grace for many a month during the long RM winters. . .we didn't have much of a winter this year, but I am glad to be out there digging in the dirt again. . .happy spring from your neighbor in Montana !

Hi Montana,

Welcome to the Friendliest Little Gardening Forum in the
West!

We had a pretty nasty winter here along the Front Range this
year—in a very strange way! It was TOO
warm! Then when the temps suddenly
dropped into the single digits a few times you could hear all the semi-dormant
plants screaming! Even my normally-evergreen stuff wasn’t
“evergreen” this year! And all along the
Front Range people have had sections of evergreens (trees!) die off that are
gonna take years to recover!

The good news is that when stuff like that happens, at least
you can come here for some HUGS to help a little—even if there’s nothing we can
do to help with the actual plants! We
may not have much helpful advice after a hail storm, but we’re all really good with sympathy—since we all Understand!

P.S. If you ever
happen to be trippin’ down this way when we have a swap (spring and fall), we’d
love to have you show up! We’ve had
folks from all over, including the Western Slope and Kansas, but Montana would
be a new Benchmark!

Hi Maidinmontana.

Welcome to RMG!. I recently posted a link to the first page of this forum. Way back When ... It has always involved gardeners from the several states and even BC!

You have a challenging gardening environment there in Billings. We would all appreciate knowing what works for you and what doesn't. Dreaming and planning is coming to an end. My hands were in soil for several hours, yesterday ツ!

Hi Steve. . . ha ha ha ha what works and what doesn't. . . to be determined. . . *challenging* says it all. . .

Last year I experienced the wrath of ice melt in a perennial bed, a horrific hail storm in May damaging what wasn't wiped out by the ice melt, and so far this spring I was told my huge apple tree has fire blight. Always challenging, never a dull moment, sometimes rewarding.

I lived in fort Colllins for 4 years. i wish I still lived there so I could take part in the spring swap, sounds fun.

There's nothing better than the smell of dirt. . .

Hey Montana! In my not so humble opinion, this is the best spot on the interwebs, especially for gardening. Sure, I may dabble in and out of those other forums, but for the important stuff, I park it right here lol. (And you're right about the "know it alls" and the grumps. Well, I'm a grump, and there is someone around here who goes by the name Grouchygardner, but, we at least try to be friendly in the process haha!) Anyways glad you found us, and welcome!

We had some horrific hail storms a few years back, a few of our members had their gardens decimated twice in one season. I was so impressed with how our members offered replacement plants, advice and encouragement. That's when I knew this really was the Friendliest Little Gardening Forum in the West. I've made pretty good friends here and learned more than I thought my head would hold!

Hello. I used to live in Big Timber, but now enjoying the sunny skies of Colorado! Hear you had a horrific dust storm yesterday east of Billings.

I enjoy the posts from the folks in this group. Ideas, comments, etc. still apply to Billings. Hope to see you here more often!

Thanks everyone for the welcome wishes. . . Yes smdmt, we DID have a doozey of a wind storm. There were 73 MPH winds, 5 fires, one of which came within 1/2 mile from my in laws house. There was a huge accident on the free-way which included 20+ cars I was told. The only fatality was my niece's Gramma :( I'm afraid it isn't the last were going to see of fires with such a dry winter.
