Well, I need extra lighting in the room and there is an outlet there. :o) The only other outlet is right behind the plant. I thought the lamp would look better grouped with the TV rather than just by the plant.

Put a console table on that wall and use a table lamp. That lamp is not working in that space at all.

This area actually is in line with my entryway. I already have a console table in my entryway, so I'm a little leery of having like a row of tables all along the same wall; entry way, living room wall, and then TV console. What do you think?

I don't think that is a problem. There is a doorway between the two spaces. You can get a console in a different wood tone or painted to break up the look you are concerned about. Also, you can place the plant between the table and doorframe.

I think the bigger issue is why is that wall being so poorly utilized? Center the TV and stand on the wall, remove the art (which is hung way too high) and put the plant in the corner. eliminating the dated torchiere floor lamp entirely.

Yes, I had trouble with the placement of the art because of the thermostat and heater vent. We don't center along that wall because of the layout of the living room. Here's a better picture to get the idea.

If the art were hung properly with its center point 5' from the floor it would easily go under the vent which needs to be painted to match the wall color. However, I don't advise any art on that wall; just TV on a swivel base atop a credenza (not a TV stand) that is 24" wider than the set. Then you have room to add floor to ceiling stationary drapery panels right and left of the window.

Thanks for all the advice. We were told that we don't have enough space between the couch and the tv for it to go over the fireplace. Also, we don't want the tv to be the focal point of the room. I like the idea of the credenza, but it would be awkward to watch tv from the couch if the tv is directly to the left of the couch don't you think? Window treatments are another thing I need to work on too!

Actually, you might want to consider moving the couch perpendicular to the FP, facing the TV. When budget allows you could add one or two swivel chairs where the sofa is now. They would easily turn to see TV.
