I want to know what you found out!! I heard the same thing too...saw a granite called moonnight that we are thinking of using instead...

Ours still looks great about 18 months in with much use. We're pretty hard on it, but aside from a few water marks and a stray chip (near the dishwasher...) still gorgeous. Would never trade it for anything!

Do you use a daily cleaner on your marble? I guess you can't give out a brand name, but just got marble in our kitchen and we're afraid of it!! Haven't even set anything on it yet!

We don't, just water and a small amount of dish soap if necessary. Don't be afraid of it! The first scratch is the hardest (it's inevitable! It's a work surface!) but after that any dings are just part of the beautiful patina. Enjoy!

Beautiful counters....did you use any kind of sealer to protect the marble? If so, what did you use? We are about to install honed Carrara marble countertops and we were wondering if we should seal it?

Yes yes a thousand times yes! We seal ours every 6 months (ideally). When it starts to get close to time to seal it again, you can actually tell. Things don't wipe up as easily. We have has no problems at all with staining. Unfortunately I don't remember the kind of sealer we use, but your marble fabricator can recommend a good one I'm sure. Good luck with your project!

Thank you for the comments. I am building a house and so badly want Carrara Marble. However, with dinner parties and children, I am concerned this could high maintenance... Do you really think it is something you don't have to worry about as long as you seal it every 6 months? I am considering Kashmir White Granite, but would really like to have the marble.

Yes I stand by my marble! I have two kids under 3 yrs old, a dog, a messy husband, and entertain all the time. The marble stands up well. Is it pristine after 2 years? No. Would anyone besides me or my husband notice? No way. It's gorgeous and makes me happy every single day. Granite just won't compare.

I will second the marble. I posted earlier in this thread. I ended up having honed Danby imperial marble installed. It has been only seven weeks, and granted, i have been more conscious of cleaning spills. However, I have three young boys and I am sloppy when I cook. My son spilled some lemonade the day after installation. Unless you look at a certain angle, in a certain light you see nothing. I dropped a plate on it yesterday a small scratch was made. It honestly doesn't bother me and I am so happy I went with the marble. If I'd scratched or chipped granite, it would bother me more. The marble just looks beautiful even when less than perfect condition. The sealer my fabricator used has a 15 year warranty against stains. It is by DuPont and it is called Bulletproof sealer. So far no stains.
