While my best "deal" was from Lamps Plus Open Box...

The big boxes, Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, have a huge on-line selection and a great return policy (that I took advantage of).

Ordered online, usually with free shipping, the lights I did not like I returned to the store for an immediate credit.

Also used Amazon, Overstock and Wayfair.

we bought some from Pottery Barn, but mostly we went to the big lighting stores and wrote down the model/item numbers and the maker and went home and googled them and found the best deals we didn't hit any snafus and every source shipped and received in good shape with all the pieces (which was better than our luck with the big box stores) within a couple of weeks.

we got pretty much everything from Home Depot, but our allowance wasn't huge and we knew we can change light fixtures later on. We did get our kitchen pendant lights from Destination Lighting. We actually found that fixtures that didn't have reviews on HD had a number of reviews on Wayfair. Price was higher but it was a great way to make sure that people had used and liked the product.

If you know anyone that works for a lighting or electrical supply company - or a sister company like GE or Schneider Electric. We got over 25K worth of lighting for 5K after the employee discount. Markup on lighting is sick.
