Need quick answer to this pruning question please

Hello All -

If fruit trees such as figs and pomegranate have just started to in the last few days leaf out in the garage may I still:

1. Cut an inch or so off the bottom of the root mass and place some new soil mix to account for the part removed to help develop more feeder roots this season?

If #1 is still an option as opposed to waiting for next year then would I still have to keep the trees in the garage or if outside away from direct sunlight for a few weeks until new root growth starts?

Or would there be enough feeder roots around the top/edges of the pot so as to be able to sustain the plant even with the bottom inch or so removed?

Or should I not do anything to them since I completely removed them from the pots/soil last year and did root pruning on them and placed them into new soil?

Thanks,

Brian
