Does this granite look good with these cabinets?

This is for a 8 foot long basement wet bar. We have black brown cabinets, the floor will be dark brown planks and the walls will be either medium or navy blue.

My boyfriend really wants black pearl granite as the countertops but I worry that it will look like one big blob of a black hole. part of the problem is black pearl granite isn't a plain black - it has specks of brown in it as far as I can tell from the slab. And for some reason I cannot picture how the finished product will look in my head so I can't even visualize it.

These are the only two pictures of black on dark I can find via a quick google search. And I don't even think the first pic is black pearl - it looks like blue pearl to me. I would love to hear some opinions as to whether it would just be too much darkness or whether it's a "clean look" as my guy seems to thjnk it will be.

You can have plank wood floors stained brown and brown stained cabinets with black granite but you can't have navy walls with them in a basement.notice how the second picture works with dark walls but only because of a wall of windows, high ceilings and stainless appliances that reflect light!

Thank you :). And yeah even in the second picture they have white countertops, which was what i originally wanted but the bf said it is too sudden to have a flash of white when the walls, ceiling, floor and cabinets are all dark. He's leaving it up to me but since this is a basement man cave / media room, I don't want to just ignore what he wants completely. Thanks again for the pic and opinion!

I get where he is going with the concept of dark for a media basement but I think a black countertop will just make it feel really dark and heavy. Maybe look into the option of a grey/concrete color for the stone. There are a lot of great quartz options out there in that gray color and I think it would be lighter but not the huge contrast of a white. Navy and grey are a great color combination as well.

Here's another. I did a dark basement for my husband and he loves it. Dark cabinets, dark floors, dark countertops, dark walls, and dark hardware. I made sure the lighting was good. It can work for a basement man cave.

Thank you both! Maybe it's a guy thing then, wanting darkness everywhere lol. Probably in rebellion to the rest of the house which is all white as per my preference. I'll see if I can find a grey countertop in our budget or if he will budge on the walls, which might be an easier sell since there are so many shades of blue paint available.

Just to let you know Blue Pearl granite is mostly dark gray with speckles of blue. This might work for you in this dark space and pick up the blue paint from the walls. I would try to get samples of the counter top materials you are considering and paint swatches in large sizes to see how these samples look in your space with the lighting. Colors appear differently next to each other in different lighting. Good Luck with your project!!
