I would not have a hanging ceiling light in this DR. The DR is gorgeous just as it is. I'd have dinners in the sconces and pot lights and call it a day.

Sometimes I think pendant ceiling lights are going out in DRs. When I look at your room I can see why: your DR has a fresh, light, unfussy, easy to care for, modern, uncluttered, relaxing vibe.

I agree witih your husband. I'd use hurricanes with candles for ambient lighting when dining.
