I would add a rug, I love the room. I would also remove the plates on the wall there seems to be a lot going on. I am trying to see where the pink on the table is connected to? Sometimes it is hard to see what's going on with a room without seeing the other pictures of the house.

I like your room - I suspect it's a bit lighter in real life than the photo. I like a rug to make the space look finished - consider a natural fiber with a border - try Ballard designs or target for well priced options.

Thank you both! I apologize for the lighting, but it was dark when I took the picture and when the chandelier is on the lighting is horrible and I also don't have a flash on my camera. The table and buffet decor doesn't correspond to anything in the room really. We change it out for each season just to keep it fresh!

Here are pictures of the living room so you can see the style. We like pops of color but a pretty laid back, casual style. If you see anything in here that you would add or change please don't be afraid to let me know! The smaller decor pieces (throw pillows, wreath, bottles, etc) also change for the season.

Good poster. I would get an area rug & probably would recommend going with a sisal or at least a plain. (Even though I almost always recommend an Oriental or a Persian) because I used to think that they can go with anything.

Only because you asked - would you consider living without the valances in the living area for a little while to see if you like it? I think it will give a cleaner more youthful look. I like your rooms otherwise.

I'm honored that y'all like the rooms! Thanks again! You make a very good point about the valances. We used to have those white mini blinds that have no real visual appeal, but changed them out for the shades and never thought of taking the valances down.

I agree with willy4 about the plates not being right, and with intown123 about the valances needing to disappear. Take those down and you'll have a fresh start. The zigzag runner on the drop leaf table also seems too complicated with the patterns around it. I know you're hating all these negative thoughts that are coming your way, but out of them let's hope you'll be able to better enjoy the lovely things you've put in your home.

Carolyn - thanks for your input. When you say shutters and trim I'm assuming you mean the piece on the wall over the buffet? That is a mirror. The color of the room is actually pretty bright as it is, but the lighting doesn't exactly show this. Image 1 is the only picture that I have that most closely shows the actual room color.

Aha, I see now that it's a mirror and not an opening into the kitchen which is what I took it for. I still think the color is too dark. Do you know what the paint color is called, and the manufacturer?

I can't remember exactly what the color name is, but I believe it is from Pantone. It was marmalade something...I tried to find it, but I can't right now.

Also, if we take the plates down do you recommend putting anything else up on the wall?

I imagine that Marmalade could be the name, cause it looks a bit edible! Are you more fond of - if you had to pick - leaning Marmalade toward earth tones, or the hot tropical fruit pink? I see what looks like a buttercreamy plate too.... I like your shades, but since you basically did ask I wonder if the darker valances would do better elsewhere.

Do the curtains have a slate blue, or?

Once the plates are removed, let's see how the wall with just the mirror is looking. You could also remove the placemats from the table and use a solid cream colored runner that would contrast nicely with the table. If you want a rug, try a simple seagrass rug which should lighten the room. Your walls look more pumpkin pie than marmalade to me. Consider a lighter color.
