There's no poll, but yes, I have stopped and actually actively sought out sales. They were great when furnishing a house my daughter shared with two roommates while at university ($50 for an oak dining table and chairs that was in great shape).

Yes, on occasion. I'm not half as lucky as my sister, who lives in a different part of the country, however. She's gotten a lot of great bargains. I've found a couple things, but nothing to write home about, lol.

Auctions and estate sales are a lot more interesting, IMO, and I got a nice bookcase once. My husband and I have to be careful at garage sales, estate sales, and auctions, as we end up with lots of stuff we really didn't need, lol.

I found an etching by G.W. Bohde that was beautifully matted in a simple frame. It was signed by the artist and had little pencil sketches on the mat. The frame caught my eye at first and the price was $7.50. I have seen similar in antique stores for over $200.00. Mine is simply elegant and hangs in my entry way over an antique game table.

Yes, whenever I can. Also at secondhand stores. I love finding bargains, especially when they're items I really need. I'm a lot more selective than I used to be.

I don't any more as I don't need anything, but when I was in high school my boyfriend [who I married shortly after graduating] found the coolest old green and gold wrought iron bed. I still have it in my garage, and doubt I'll every get rid of it as I love it. I don't have room for to set it up, nor do I have a mattress for it, but I would use it again in a heartbeat if the need arose. I paid almost a king's ransom for it at $25 back in 1973, but it was worth it.

I routinely shop the thrift store for Tee shirts and the like since I don't work I can't justify spending $40 for a shirt to bum around in. My greatest find was a 1848 Bible for $3!

When I was a grad student, I walked past the rich neighborhood on the way to university. I got a bunch of furniture off the sidewalk. When we bought our US house, we weren't moving, so we had no furniture for it. Neighbors were having a garage sale, so we picked up lamps, chairs, pictures, rugs.

I love garage sales and flea markets.

We do not have garage
sales where I live but ‘attic clearance’ sales on official community specified
dates. We also have permanent ‘flea markets’. I love scrounging around in these

for Leerdam, 1930's satinated glass figurine of a sleeping deer – Christie’s value
€400-€600. My purchase price: €20. If one isn’t too reluctant to hobnob
with dust and grime, little treasures may sneak right into your hands.

yes my entire house is furnished with second hand finds. I never buy anything at full retail!

I don't go to garage sales much, but I do buy almost all my furniture second-hand on gumtree. My current favourite is an early 20th century chaise longue that I'm using as a hall bench. It's a bit knackered and needs some TLC to undo some not great previous restoration, but it was cheap and has really made my hall. My best bargain though is my favourite dining chair which we picked up from the side of the road!

when we bought out 1840s stone house we haunted every country estate sale that we could find. most of our furniture came from such. we bought more tables and chairs than we could possibly use, and i've slowly refinished them over the years. only two more tables to go and i'm done with everything we accumulated. i keep a booth at the local antique mall in town and whenever i feel like changing things up, i take the stuff i'm tired of to the mall and bring in some other 'treasure'. actually, except for sofa and a couple of chairs, i think everything in our first floor came from estate sales. They just don't makeum like they used to!

But really, there's simply too much "stuff" floating around out there. I don't need to be bringing that home!

Now, I just drive by and peruse. I can tell what is good and what is junk. I have gotten some terrific items from garage sales. The small urban city I live in has a special weekend for garage sales all over the city; that is fun!.

It's how I decorated my first house. Would not have been able to otherwise.

I've had tons of garage sales but have never shopped at one. The point is to get rid of stuff, not bring more junk home!!

I don't have a car so garage sales are out unless they're close by. I did get a really nice old chair (probably 1920s) that had been stripped down to reupholster and the owner changed his mind, sold it for $2. He even carried it down the street to my house!

I call them little treasure hunts. When I was first with my current husband, he couldn't fathom why someone would go shopping when they didn't need anything. One day I commented that I'd like a pair of white sandals. Next weekend I went out and came back with a pair of white Birkenstocks for $10. He never commented again.

I love yard sales! I have found Etcher prints, as well as furniture pieces for my contemporary home. Just the thought of reusing what others have deemed un usable is exciting. Love to shop thrift stores, estate sales, and even consignment stores. They are great!!!
