Pool landscaping

Good morning. I live in Delaware, zone 7. We have a kidney shaped pool bordered by a concrete patio that follows pool shape. This is surrounded by a black aluminum rectangle fence. Space between patio and fence is filled in with rock. How can we make this the focal point in our large backyard by adding curving mixed evergreen, shrub and plants on the outside of fence to make the appearance of the fence disappear and give a beautiful garden to look at? What design should we use and what plant materials? We plan to use containers of annuals on the inside of fence to soften the look of the concrete. We have a large, sunny backyard, so the beds can be substantial. Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you.
