It seems small to me for the space . I would do two square coffee tables together and maybe those similar side tables as the end tables . Making different shapes, textures and patterns uniting instead of repeating shapes of the coffee and end tables

The little round table is much too small and not at all functional. I would use a large square , big enough to be near both sofas. If you think the size would be overpowering, choose a table with a lot of glass or plexiglass to be less prominent . Any area rug will work- it depends on if you want to go modern or traditional. I am very partial to Oriental rugs, but my taste is traditional.

The hammered effect works but the scale of the table is too small. I agree, try the smaller hammered pieces as side tables and something else for the coffee table.

End tables should be within an inch or two as tall as the arms of your sofas. If you get a round coffee table go for square or rectangular end tables. Even the two end tables don't have to match each other.

A 9 x 12 rug might be the right size.

I agree with Leelee. I think the coffee table needs to be bigger and less "solid". A leggy and/or open coffee table would be much better. Also, the side tables need to be very close in height to the furniture arms. They don't need to be big, but they need to be much taller.

As far as a rug choice, may we please see a close up of your dining room rug? The two rugs will need to at least get along.

Yours dilemma is the perfect example of why not to buy a sofa and loveseat. Finding an accommodating coffee table is an issue. Try a rectangle shape where the 5 seats have access....maybe a 3 x 5...

@Ann, the dining table and rug behind is to be replaced. So I didn't attach a picture of that. I'm thankful for all the insightful replies.

Based on the chandelier in the dining area, and straight line of your furniture it seems like you are going for a mid century/modern look. Whether or not that's correct here are a few of my suggestions. First of all, definitely get a rug for the sofa area. Are there 2 chairs or just the one? Also are they set next to a wall or entrance to the room? If there are 2 you might try putting them where the love seat is, with a table in between. The love seat cuts off the open flow whereas the chairs will provide a break but not like a wall. If your style is as I said above, and it's possible, get different chairs. Maybe chairs that have wood and fabric. I would also bring the chairs and love seat closer to the sofa facing each other to create a sitting space that lends to conversation. A larger coffee table would be good and I would keep it round, glass top or even a modern shape( like kidney shape). Different shapes and materials add texture and layers to a room. Get pillow covers from Bed Bath Beyond for your existing gray pillows and get a couple of additional pillows that are a blend with down feathers, and of different size. They don't all have to match, but do need a common color. If you keep your chairs, get Matching lumbar pillows for them, or down filled for comfort. Be mindful of the size of pillows for the piece of furniture. Have a large colorful piece of art and hang it over the sofa & one for dining area that compliments and has common colors, or subject matter. You could go with only one side table for sofa and put it on the right dude ( that's right side when looking at your posted photo.

This is the view of the space from a different angle. Behind the chairs is a bay window. Currently I have light filtering roller shades on it. Still in the process of buying rugs, art pieces, pillows, curtains, etc. I wanted somewhat kid friendly place hence went for this coffee table so that there is still enough space for them to run/play around. I have a few more weeks to return the coffee/side tables.

I'm still uncertain of what color rug would look good here.

Hi, you have such a nice space. And I agree that the larger coffee table would be a better choice. Understanding why a round one with kids is something you were hoping to find, take a look at a few from Mitchell Gold. All 3 are larger (from 38" to 45") plus have more open bases. The 3rd one below is an upholstered choice...so any fabric or leather they offer can be used on that style.

It definitely complements your furniture well! We would add a nice rug for sure because the floors don't complement the table as much.

I would try the round coffee table between the 2 armless chairs. Then a bigger coffee table pulled into a more functional location where you can reach it from the couch. The end tables are too tiny and I would return them.

The small white chairs with legs look like nice dining table chairs. Try them in the dining room. They should be replaced with something more comfortable and with more weight to balance with the sofa and loveseat. Keep the scale small. Something like two of these.

I agree the chairs would be more appropriate at the dining table (could you use them there?), but they aren't terrible in the living room. That side table between them would help them look a bit bigger.

The idea was to use them as dining table chairs whenever we put in the dining table extension and needed more seats at the table. But when not in use, place it in the living room.

Sorry but no that table is too small for the space. It is big enough to be a side table. Nice idea...nowhere near big enough.

In regards to the white tufted bench you posted above, if you're trying to go for that feminine, glam look, then perhaps that bench will work. That bench will define your space to be more feminine and formal, definitely moving away from the casual family room feel.

I think if you got a rug you love and add some colorful printed throw pillows instead of the plain color and add some green plants and wall art to the room things might come together. Try all three tables configured together for a coffee table. Then you would have something unique. Don't go for the furniture store look- boring!

Ha, I almost bought that coffee table! I absolutely love it but I don't think it fits in that space (which is why I didn't get it..it's quite small).
