A designer once told me the key to painting ceilings is to dilute the wall color with white in a one to three ratio, so in your case one part gold to 3 parts white. It makes the ceiling look so much better, there is less of a stark contrast, makes ceiling feel higher. I saw it in model homes she did and it looks awesome!

Plus looking at your pic again, part of the problem is that the wall sections above the crown molding are white, they should be the same color as the walls, it makes the ceiling look lower than it really is

Plus looking the pic again the ceiling looks lower than it really is because the wall spaces (2 of them) above the crown molding are the white of the ceiling. Paint them the color of the walls, they are wall, not ceiling. It will make the ceiling appear higher.

Great , great room love the color combo!!! Do not dilute your wall color and put on ceiling. Not that it doesn't work sometimes but as a decorative artist for many years I can say that some colors not so much... That gold diluted will look to yellow up there and kill the strong contrast that you have going. Leave it alone
