disguising support poles

I don't have any photos, as not moved in yet, but the loft I have bought has metal poles supporting the joists which are all open and visible - there are 8 in the bedroom down each side and 4 in the bathroom. The poles are small (about 4 in diameter) and painted white - I want to keep them exposed but would like to 'beef' them up a bit as they look really weedy right now - any ideas would be welcome - wondered if its possible to clad them in reclaimed timber to make posts or clad them in larger cast iron

i'd have a contractor come and beef up the header beams so you dont have to have quite so many of the metal posts. then when you make the ones that are left look more serious you'll still have some space.
