Yes, I let the air into the bottle. This design *should* work fine. It is just the cup that is the weak spot, I think.

I have a jug of Era, kept in the cabinet above the machine. I rinse the measuring cap in the washer's water flow and dry it after every use. I kept the cap from a previous jug to immediately place on the spout (swapping the caps on each use) after measuring in case a drip was to occur. No mess.

I used to just toss the cap into the wash. (Interestingly, the bottom of the clear cap does say toss in wash or rinse after use.)

Nowadays, I dispense the liquid detergent into a small silicone measuring cup and use it as a dosing device. The rubbery, flexible material alleviates the cling-clang noise inside my front loader.

I used to throw it in the washer as well. I also have an extra one that I just found that I had put away.

ArlieVie- Eureka! I tossed the cap in with the blanket and no goop on the counter. That clear print on the bottom is a little hard for my old eyes to read, but this was evidently a concern that was brought up in the design stage of the big container. Thanks everyone.

Am I crazy....lol..are you saying youns put the measuring cap from tide liquid into the washing machine? Doesn't this pose a risk of damaging the washer? I must have read your posts wrong or I've really finally lost my mind.

Well at least the cap gets washed out....although I won't try it in my standard top loader. OH wait I don't use liquids except rarely...lol

Yes, I noticed the instructions on the Era cap but I prefer to not do that (put it into the machine).

I think some editing on the instructions is in order -- "Toss into washer, or rinse after use." :-) Surely a goopy detergent measuring cap shouldn't be put into the rinse cycle!

These directions come from P&G....those of us smart enough to know not to put it in the rinse won't...yet how many people don't have half a brain when it comes to laundry or young people doing laundry for the 1'st time and will just toss it into the rinse cycle.

I toss it in the wash cycle and leave it until the load is finished. No problems at all.

I switched to a collapsible silicone cup to cut down on the noise inside the washer, as well as to prevent possible damage to the clothing, especially in a front loader. Another benefit is that my detergent drawer is residue free. Yay!

Hi folks, I have been dwelling in thought about putting the tide cap into the washer lol sorry but somethings won't leave me alone, today I actually read the big tide jug, it doesn't say to put the cap in the washer, it says too unscrew the push button dispenser and throw that in too prevent clogging. So than I called P&G they confirmed its the push button not the cap that goes in the washer..lol..but this still bugs me. I questioned P&G about this possiably causing dammage to washers the nice lady said * its been tested and will not damage HE washers* ..

Not a word about traditional washers. Sorry everyone if I've fixated on this it just bugged me..lol

My sister has thrown the measuring cap in her SQ top load for years. No problems. Just dont get it in the dryer when unloading washer to dryer. It would probably warp.

I threw the Era cap in the washer when I had the GE but just made sure to get it out before putting the clothes in to dry. With the Speed Queen, I have it fixed where the lid can be open when filling and I just rinse the cup. But are we talking about 2 different things - you the dispenser cap and me the cup?

Reguardless of weather its the cap, cup, ect... I am not putting it into my washer. I have had too much * bad* luck lately and I'm the one whose washer would end up damaged, OTOH there's the downy ball that's supposed to be safe in the washer, so I would imagine the measuring cup should be safe. See folks how I just completly changed my original thoughts. Guess I just had to think this thru lol

You could always place it(holding cup upright of course) in one of the cheap dollar tree mesh bags then drop it all in the machine. Then pull out bag,cap and all but the agitator is bigger than that plastic cup so it's not going to hurt/damage the washer or cup I wouldn't think.

Just a followup- I have been throwing the cup in with each load and it is getting a little warped. BUT, it still measures well and I don't have a goopy mess on the quartz anymore. I have other, more important messes to attend to at the present time so I am grateful for one less;)

P&G told me the cup was never intended to be put into a washing machine. The white thingy with the red pushbutton is what is marked on the bottles to put in the washer lol, they won't be responsable for damages by putting the cup in. I had to laugh because the pushbutton could pose a problem also. Thinking about this I think it could pose a risk with either one, but what about people that throw it into the dryer with the laundry...couldn't that be a fire hazard?

Interesting that no manufacturer seems to provide liquid dosing devices that go straight in the drum. In Europe, they have been common for decades. P&G's newest cap has the usual ml scale to measure the liquid plus little scrubbing fins to pretreat stains.

Lol Sparky yes P&G is notorious for never making sense. No I didn't ask them about the cup stating that I didn't read the cup when I was at the store, I just read the back of the jug.

Whirlpool the new liquid tide turbo in the USA also has a measuring cap that is a scrubber. I know Europe has laundry detergent measuring devices that go into the washer, I wish we had that. Maybe P&G will provide something like that for us someday instead of spending so much time developing stinky long lasting perfumes. I really don't understand why P&G won't do the one fragrance that me and many associate with clean***Lemon..like years ago when we had FAB with lemon fresh borax. I think we have every fruit under the sun except lemon.lol.

I think somebody, somewhere, in the chain of command at P&G is misinformed regards to removing the button-spigot from the jug and putting into the machine. My Era jug, the spigot resists unscrewing, must be some sort of latching design on it.

Not sure if you remember the Tide Kick thing you filled with Tide then rolled this ball across stains and it dispensed it into the stain as you rolled . Best I remember it said when you were finished pretreating clothes just toss the Tide Kick into the machine and it is 2-3 times the size of the measuring cap on the liquid.

DaDoes Im with you on the spout on the jug. I would be afraid the little red button or something might come apart and end up somewhere that might clog something up. No sense in asking for problems.

Dadoes, when I spoke to P&G they did tell me it is the push button spigot that's to be thrown into the washer, the back of the tide jug states to unscrew the push button, rinse or throw into washer to prevent clogging. I can't find anything that says to throw the cup in...Any of us that has spoken to P&G knows they talk in circles and you don't usually get the same response no matter how many calls you make to P&G. But I agree their chain of command is misinformed.

The confusion about the cup may have come from me. With Era you throw the cup in the washer. When I first read the OP, I misread cap to be cup.

I wouldn't pay $9.99 for all four of them myself. I don't use the one I have. Its one of those things you just kind of forget about. Forget where I got mine or how much it was.

Just looked on a jug of All Free/Clear I have and it says after measuring to rinse cup out or toss cup into washer, top loading automatics only. The All doesn't mention the spout.

I agree I wouldn't pay for the tide kicks either, if I wait long enough tide will come out with a new measuring device attached to a large jug of New Improved, heavy on scent that lasts thru a necular war lol. Besides I want a toss in measuring device for powders, just for the fun of it, because its sure not much work to measure, and dump into washer.lol

Musicgale...I wanted to answer your original question but never did..sorry...I have several different liquid detergents in the glass sun tea jugs with spouts sold at walmart. .I also hate how they leave a few drips after you fill the cup, so I bought a pair of cute baby booties and after I fill my cup while the cup is sitting under the spout I pull the bootie over the spout. It catches the excess before it gets on anything and looks cute. Every once in a while throw them in the washer but remember to cut back on detergent depending on how much is collected on the bootie.

I just went in to put my laundry into the dryer and the entire newly opened gallon of tide that was in the cabinet above my washer/dryer completely drained coming down both the front and the back of my cabinets covering the entire laundry room; walls, floors, cabinetry, washer, dryer, etc. I’ve been using this since HE came out and have never had more than a drop or two spill? What the heck? I don’t even know where to start!
