Depends on how big you are. Nothing is worse than raising your arms to wash your hair and having your elbows hit the walls. Ouch! Also depends on how much space you have to work with. Making a shower the size of a standard tub area works. Use a regular shower head. Rain showers are over rated.

Answers depend on so much, the size of your bathroom, the climate of you area (if it get cold in winter a large shower without a door won't hold in the heat, and will be chilly). We have had walk ins the size of a footprint of a standard tub that worked well. Best shower fixtures are up to you and your style, but make at least one a handheld, if only for cleaning the shower. We have a rain head and a handheld, and I use the handheld the most. The switching valve allows both on at the same time...heaven!

I'd make at least one shower head a hand held, good for cleaning the shower, dogs, and people. And we love our rain head. We have both rain head and handheld, and the valve adjusts to either one or both in use.

Oops, I didn't see my first comment pop up, so I repeated some of it. Sorry!

Not sure what size you're looking at, but we had a very small space and a big factor became the size of the shower door. Pre-fab models were ugly, and we couldn't find one small enough, so we went with a custom door. Huge range in prices for custom doors (up to 5x what we paid for the same thing!), but in the end got just what we wanted/needed. Just a heads-up for planning/budgeting. I agree with earlier comments about the hand-held.
