It makes a difference as to what can be suggested.
Can you get an appropriate picture of the area showing relevant surroundings?

I am in Boise, ID. This is what I had in mind but I can't find out what it is. As far as relevant surroundings, it is a new construction so I have a clean slate to work with.

I can't find the variety of deodar cedar. Most of them are a lot more bushy and pyramid shaped then the ones in the picture. Plus I'm curious if there are any other recommendations.

Italian cypress is nice, though it's a fast grower, but can be trimmed as hedge. There are other evergreens beyond conifers to consider...boxwoods that are nice like Graham Blandy or Sky Pencil, but slow to grow. Also Green Spire Euonymus is quite easy to grow, and is faster than boxwood.

Both of the above mentioned have their problems in certain areas. I don't know how well they do in Boise.
I would hate to see Italian Cypress used as a clipped hedge. It just doesn't seem right to me.

It's not my preference, but some don't like the 40' ht or want a very solid privacy hedge.
