The backsplash will be travertine tile. I'll add that once it gets done either today or tomorrow.

I think your kitchen will be beautiful. It seems like the appliances will be hidden by the island a lot except the refrigerator. I had white in my old house. I wish now I would have now researched more and gotten the stainless that doesn't smudge. It drives me crazy wiping it down constantly so I understand your concerns. Maybe you could check those out, but I don't think whites going to ruin it.

Also what are the dimensions of your kitchen if you don't mind sharing? It looks like it's going to be great:) I love the openness of it and mixture of the stone and wood!

@ poshky it's roughly 30x30 room. This room includes kitchen/living/dining. Love the encouragement! When I search white appliances in houzz it wasn't making me feel optimistic since there seems to be shortage of pictures that have them.

Great room! When I was drawing up my plans I kept making my kitchen great room 30x30 also! Hatetoshop has some really nice photos to help you out also. Looks like you are going to have a very warm and inviting place. Keep us posted on the final results:)

I really, really dislike today's huge, glaring stainless steel appliances; they look industrial/commercial, not what I want in a home. I'd take white any day. That said, the stainless sink my parents installed in their 1960 kitchen, one piece with built-in drainboards, is now 55 years old and in great shape. So there is that.

I feel like rebels going against the trend of stainless steel and non white cabinets and I like it.

White appliances are NOT old school. They are very attractive and give a clean look and in some kitchens, like your for instance, they are fabulous. You aren't the only one tiring of stainless.

What a coincidence! I ordered white Kenmore elite appliances as well because I dislike stainless steel for aesthetic and upkeep reasons. I am installing them in a high gloss white kitchen but I, too, am having doubts. I don't want my kitchen to look like a pharmacy ie very white and antiseptic. I love the fridge but feel the wall oven and microwave don't look as rich. I hope the white doesn't yellow over time. I will send pics once they are installed. Thank goodness the cook top had to be black!

Why did you opt for four pendant lights rather than three larger ones, which would esthetically would have looked more pleasing. Just as in decorating, mantels, art etc. it is usually recommended to do things in threes.
I may be way off base and perhaps your professional designer wanted it to be four.

Not off base. We had no professional designer. Not sure why we went with four instead of three. I think because of the sure size of the island just made more sense to do four. Thanks for your input. Decisions like this is what you get when you can't afford a professional and you leave it up to amateur home owners.

Britteny, beautiful kitchen! My dream is the cliche white kitchen with s/s appliances but I sure can see the beauty in yours, also. It's going to be fantastic! I am going with only two pendants over my 8x4 island because well, there was a mishap and I mistakenly didn't argue my way into three. I am now looking for mini chandeliers because I don't think two small pendents will be sufficient.
