Marvin Bifold or LaCantina Bifold door?

Any preference between the two? Any quality difference?

A little background - we decided on a 5-panel LaCantina bifold door for our great room (new construction). Our windows are Marvin Integrity with ebony exterior. We originally didn't a consider Marvin bifold because it came in so much more expensive. But now, we received a price that's about $900 less for the Marvin door. Our Marvin rep said he's able to give us a great deal because of our large window and door order. And some additional bonues are that one, the door will match exactly in the ebony color (the LaCantina matched very well, but the marvin is obviously exact), and two, the lead time is about 1/3 faster, which eliminates our contractor's need to do something temporary while we wait for the LaCantina door. The only noticeable difference between the two doors is that the interior is vertical grain douglas on the LaCantina and primed pine on the Marvin - which means nothing to me since I don't know if it makes a difference!

So basically, it all comes down to quality. Does the marvin door meet the same quality as LaCatina? Thoughts?

excellent question..........we have only specified LaCantina and Nana, but not Marvin yet. However, the reasons for choosing the Marvin are very compelling. I would double check the warranty and make sure that it is going to cover any problems. Also ask the dealership for three phone numbers of satisfied customers so that you can ask them directly.

If you get all the right answers, go for the Marvin.

Muffin. We're in the Boston area and also looking at the glass door openings. We've a 12' wide opening which I am guessing is close/smaller than yours? Can you share pricing? We'd also be making a substantial window order from Marvin if we go ahead (45 next gen double hung windows!)

Marvin windows - can you provide a link to the air infiltration rates and R value of your folding system? This is a VERY tight house (R40 walls). Nana's system (one of them) is Passive House certified - you have info on yours? Thanks

Edward k - ours is a 15' opening. The Lacantina door was around 12K. This Marvin door was given to us around cost for about 13K since we bought around 50K in doors and windows.

Edward k, you can find complete details about the Marvin Bi-Fold Door online here. Additionally, this section of our website is dedicated to energy efficiency information. Once you've had a chance to review those pages, please let us know if we can answer any questions - we're happy to help!

I've been to that location and it's really not that easy to find the energy information on this the system. All of the other tabs take you directly to the appropriate information on your website but the Energy tab takes you to another completely different area where you need to select the right products. Can you post a direct link OR better upload the information here?
    Thanks

Muffin - How did it turn out? We are doing a remodel and considering Marvin vs. LaCantina vs. Nana. The length is aabout 12-15ft. Our builder favors Marvin but they are SO expensive that it doesn't make it worth it. It's part 1 of a remodel and we have two more sections about 40' to do. So, this decision impacts a huge area. I am leaning towards Nana. Thoughts?

hi ptk1, It turned out nice. The reason we went with the Marvin door is because the Marvin rep pretty much gave us the door at cost since we were buying a large quantity of Integrity windows and doors from him. That, and the fact that it matched the exterior black of our windows and doors exactly. The cost was about the same as the LaCantina door - the LaCantina rep was surprised because Marvin doors always cost much more. Anyway, we have had some problems with the door - one we're trying to resolve now. One of the parts you use to lock the door into place won't line up now (which means we can't fully seal it shut) and we're waiting on a marvin rep to come out and fix it. They told us it's either from poor installation (our contractor installed it) or it's from the house settling - whichever it is, I hope they can fix it. Ours is approx 179"wx 98" tall, 5 panels, and cost around 13K. We thought the LaCantina was a solid door and would have gone with it had we not gotten the discount. We briefly checked out Nana, but I don't remember why we never considered it! Good luck!

This has been a good discussion Muffin and Ptk1. We too are pricing and comparing Marvin, and Nana. I'm interested in your selection Ptk1. Nana has always been the standard of bi-fold doors and their website is incredibly easy in locating information. And their reps have been superb with quick response time. It definitely makes the job of shopping and learning easy. I've had to lean heavily on Marvin's reps for info which has been great too, but because web site has been a challenge.
My next search is comparing their warranties plus learning about Marvins new release of their bifold April 24. I'm finding Nana pricing is very close to Marvin. There are some variables which sway me to each. This is going to be a tough decision.
