Something that is curvy, to balance all the straight lines, also chunky, to hold its own against those columns.

Definately the pedestal table. It is much easier to get chairs around than tables with legs. The style looks great with your kitchen. You could always choose some different chairs to give it a less traditional look.

Looking at the size of the room I would't get neither of them ,instead consider something larger or at least with an extension to it in case you should

have guests over for dinner , if your budget doesn't permit wait a bit and use what you already have and later on get something that you really like... settling isn't always a good idea:).

While I like the idea of a round one to enable traffic to flow better around it, I don't care for either of those styles or a white one at all. [If you've narrowed it down to these two, choose the sturdier one.]

Have you considered a chrome or black pedestal w/round, such as you might find in an office furniture store that is traditionally used as a conference table? The variety of tops available will surprise you -- wood or Formica or glass and even some of the newer materials used for countertops.

An "Office Pro" store near me sells slightly used ones and I found getting rid of the scratches easily enough done. Mine is 42" across, works well with four chairs and is a great breakfast table.

This larger table replaced a 26" black metal pedestal table. I used painted treated (plywood cut in a square) to be able to use it outdoors.

If you find a metal pedestal you like, the big box building supply stores sell round wood table tops at a reasonable price that you could finish any way you like and would cut your wood (to your specifications for you if you wanted to build a table top yourself..

Look at the pictures the both tables appear to small for that room. If your looking for pedestal consider this style and can be purchased overstock.com all white or wood top and white bottom. They come in a smaller size too. I also like the one Vanguard posted.
