Pullout storage for 12" wide x 15" deep base cabinet

I'm thinking I'll get this Rev-a-Shelf pullout storage unit for an Ikea Sektion base cabinet, which is 12" wide x 15" deep. I want to store oil bottles, utensil crock and the like. This one is only 8" wide, but that's the best I can find.

My question is if anyone might recommend something better or is this the best I can do? And is there any reason this wouldn't work? I need to stick with the 12" wide cabinet and there are very few storage solutions offered by Ikea for that size. I'm ok with this as I really would like to have this type of pullout anyway.

Well, I'm disappointed! I did not know that IKEA Sektion discontinued 12 inch drawers. I have an Akurum kitchen, with 2 12 inch, a 15 inch and 18" pull out, plus I hacked pullouts under my sink and converted another base cabinet.

I was going to suggest ordering 12 inch door parts and attaching them to the 12 inch door. But since they no longer make 12 inch drawers that's not possible. It's really too bad since the 12 inch can act as filler many times and I find them quite useful. I have a 15 inch pullout next to my range that holds oils and other baking items. I do like the function of the drawers that pull out independently though since it can become very difficult to reach items when they are all attached to the door. Mine only has the base attached to the door with two independent drawers that I spaced according to the height of my items.

I do actually like the Sektion 12 inch pull out since one side of it is not attached so it looks like it will be easy to reach items. I'd like it even better if I could add a small drawer pull out at the top of it.

Sorry I was premature in my assumption that the new line would be more similar to the old in function. Hope you find what works for you.

I'm sitting in my Dr. right now so I can only answer briefly. I would not use that. I would use IKEA hacks. I can explain in detail when I get home.

The pull-out you linked is a wall cab, but you need a base cabinet, correct? I'd consider hacking this one, available at Amazon, for a 12" base cabinet.

It looks very sturdy and looks as if would be easily altered (might be RTA), with adjustable shelves. You might be able to use the back shelves to add storage in the front. Or add one on the top, if your base cab has no top drawer. There are no reviews--I'd check the length of the slides. The downside is that it's more expensive.

bbtrix, I'm curious about the Ikea hacks.

mama goose, that's right, it's a base cabinet, but not the standard 24" deep. It's only 15" deep, so I figured that wall cabinet pull-outs would probably be better suited. Thanks, I do like the configuration of the one you linked but would have to cut it down several inches, like you mentioned. Not sure if I'm that handy!

This one is similar. Might be less complicated--you wouldn't have the extra shelves to play with, but you could customize it to fit exactly. Do you have, or know anyone with, a jig saw? Table saw? If the glides aren't too long, cutting the cabinet down would be an easy fix, especially if it's RTA.

Here's a link to the 14" pullout--with a 4-star review. It seems that the mfgr answers questions on the Amazon page, so you might ask on the page for the 11", to see if it can be shipped flat pack, which would make it easier to alter. And check the length of the glides.

Now I'm a little ashamed for posting those pull-outs, because I found these 100# rated, full extension, 14" drawer slides for $9.36. If you can possibly find someone to build that simple pull-out for a reasonable amount, you could have a custom cabinet insert at a big savings.

You could make your own with blum's metabox system. The drawer glides come in various lengths, and you cut a drawer bottom & back to the size you need. Should pair fine with ikeas system, and may be less expensive (and use the space more fully) than the 8" revashelf.

just a comment on revashelf pullouts. i have several of the base filler pullouts, as well as garbage pullouts. i have to admit i am a bit disappointed in the performance of the glides. they don't come out very smoothly, very choppy, despite my using a ton of wd40 for a year now. i plan to try different brands in my next kitchen.

there are wider pullouts available, i ran across this 10.75" wide pullout which should fit with just enough room for the glides on each side in a 12" cab. if you get a wooden one, you can cut it in the back so it is 15" deep and replace the glides with 15" ones.

i had to do this with one of my revashelf ones because my contractor needed to fit a gas line behind it. just make sure you buy full-extension glides.

this one from HD seems like a good deal.

Blum's Metabox system ... they make several lengths and depths and it's incredibly EASY to make the drawers.

Thanks everyone for your ideas and links! It kind of seems like a hack or DIY is the way to go. I wish I knew of some local carpenters or cabinet makers. I'll check with the guy who is going to do our butcher block countertops.

mama goose, those drawer slides are a find. Almost too good to pass up.

I'm going to check out the Blum Metabox system and see what's that all about.

bbtrix, this is our second Ikea kitchen, the first was the old Akurum line a couple of years ago. I'm not 100% convinced that Sektion offers more in the way of customized configurations. They are certainly trying to sell it as such, but as you pointed out, they took away some incredibly useful items, like the 12" drawers. Also, I don't like the 15" deep wall cabinets. We are using one on our pantry wall, but I wouldn't put them in the main kitchen area. Too bulky.
