Sprouted Sweet Potatoes Question

Received Sprouted "bare root" sweet potato plants as a gift, but noticed that the portion of the sweet potato they sprouted from are attached. I was advised to just plant them without removing the sweet potato, will it grow this way? My understanding was always that the sprouts should be slipped off the potato when planting.

They will do fine with the piece of potao attached. While there is no reason to leave a piece of the potato attached, it does not hurt anthing unless it is a large piece that will will send out additional sprouts.
