i honestly don't believe these windows, with this trim, are a good candidate for mounting 3 sets of plantation shutters.

And frankly, big box stores sell panels in all sizes, widths, colors and patterns, as do the flash sales sites like Overstock and Wayfair, cheap enough that you can change them out.

well, yes, but one of them is for sliding doors. for the other, look at our dear poster's actual trim, (between the windows), and suggest how that would hold back to back shutters. is all i'm saying.

yes of course you can! but it couldnt fold back off the window. you could do the first one margo pictured but i thought you wanted them to open.

well, see.... they have to attach to something to hinge, and it cannot be just the outside of your window as that is sorta like too wide. i was thinking you could have 3 pairs, like this...(well, this picture has 4 pairs) but you'd have one pair in the middle and one on each side, but then your windows couldnt slide open because there would have been a shutter screwed to the edge of the sliding window....

I bet plantation shutters would work. I have them on various window situations and the window guy figured out a configuration for each. They all open too. I'm with Margo on this!

I am getting confused. I thought all plantation shutters on the market today were made to open and be function-able. That they custom created them to fit your individual windows?

Sorry to get to the point, but why don't you visit a Next day blinds store or have an independent owner come and look to see what is feasible for your situation, then decide from the options..

Agreed. Shutters would be lovely! But you can actually get shutters that raise like horizontal blinds: http://www.selectblinds.com/shutters/select-view-shutter.html

And you could layer them with curtains if you wanted, and they'd make a great combination.

i'm confused. i thought dasha wanted her windows to sometimes be clear of the window treatment... like pulling the blinds up. then they are out of the way. i cannot conceive of how margo's first picture (which is very handsome) could ever open up and get out of the way. you might swing a panel out to get behind them to slide a window open, but the panel would still be *there*. and they would have to attach to trim which at the present does not exist. doesnt mean it cannot exist, but right now it doesnt.

i expect window people could suggest all sorts of things, but i havent found a photo of what those things might be, for dasha's existing windows.

and whew, yes, i'm valence free.

What do you guys think of accent walls? I feel like the wall where the headboard is need to pop a little but not sure which direction of color to go. I love the idea of blue but we really have no blue in that area. Red/Orange is too much for the bedroom. Thoughts?

Dasha, I did an accent wall in my bedroom because I bought a light colored upholstered headboard and it was awful against my light paint color. So, I painted the wall really dark and I love it. In your case, you have nice contrast between your wall color and headboard so I wouldn't do an accent wall.

That's a good point. Maybe just a nice piece of art there will give it enough character and contrast.

Yobo, that's my thought exactly!! And i like the sheers in the middle so add more softness.
If we got w the ikat, will need to shorten them a bit, rather than lowering the rod.

This could be MY bedroom! We have plantation shutters on the rectangle AND arch - no curtains. A 3x4 oil painting on wall above the bed, a 9x12 rug under bed, & a trunk/bench @ the foot of the bed. Great minds think alike :)

vrkeane, do you have a picture?! I want exactly what you described!

Dasha - it's not perfect, but works for us. I have tried a variety of cushions for the trunk (it's been abused) but I might have to go custom b/c nothing fits. Same with the art - I don't *love* it but it works. Trust me, I am no decorator but I hope the pics help to visualize the shutters.
