Need help figuring out Curtains/drapes with these aweful walls.

In our living room one of the walls is a log home style wall. Our home is not a log home (odd I know). We are not fans of the wall at all and plan on eventually trying to figure out what to do with it. But my problem for now is figuring out what kind of curtains/blinds that I can use with it. We have green walls. I have a contemporary/modern taste not country. The curtains we have right now are just curtains that are there for privacy nothing of our taste. I am drawn to bright colors with prints but my mother keeps saying that I can't have a curtain/drape with print because of the log walls. Suggestions and color ideas that will go with the color of log and the green? TIA!

I agree, fix the wall first. The log feature is probably just fastened on the exterior of the wall as opposed to right in the drywall..Have a pro come and patch and fix the wall for you..
I also agree with Purcell and hang your curtain rod wall to wall and ceiling height..You also have a piece of trim (crown) that needs to be removed to match the rest of the crown trim in this room.
If you don't fix the wall you will always see the logs so to speak even if you paint them..

Hi Danielle,

This is a simple fix...

Firstly, Have you considered painting the log wall a neutral color? If this is done the wall will not be a focal point, making the logs less obvious.

Secondly, have you considered wall to wall draperies (with a larger scale print), mounted close to the ceiling? See the image by CWB Architects below. I think this would be a great option, however it is difficult to tell what the other side of the room looks like.

Frankly, I would try to deal with the wall first. I do not believe it would be difficult or costly to frame out the wall slightly and then drywall it. That will change everything for you and then we can all work on that new plan..seriously check it out.

I would recommend Ripplefold Drapery on that window. It traverses really well and its really modern and clean looking.

I have thought about painting the logs but I was told (by family) it would make things look worse. would you paint the logs and the white areas all one color?

On the other side of the window is more log, a brick fireplace and a small amount of log wall. We've also thought about covering the log area with built in book cases, but I think that might be too much.

The logs are real. They think that the house was a former log home and it was bricked over. When we initially bought the house we thought they were fake and could easily be rid of.

As others have suggested fixing the wall first would be best. If it is a solid log wall and removal isn't possible then think about dry walling over it if you don't like it. The other option would be to embrace what you have, treat it as a feature wall and decorate around it. Can you post more pictures of the rest of the wall?

Prime and paint the logs white, or use the same green as for the rest of the room. The Ripplefold draperies suggested by Blindsdirectcanada are the perfect solution because they have tight stackback.

Family members may have thought that a print fabric would not look good with the striped appearance of the logs. Painting the logs over (or drywalling if you prefer) will get rid of the striped appearance.

If you hang the drapes right under the ceiling molding and run them wall to wall you will only see the logs over the window, and if the logs are painted, that little bit would be barely noticeable....I think if the log wall could be restored it would be a great feature...not sure why there is so much white between the logs now. How much wall is on the left of the window?
