Yellowing of plant leaves is known as Chlorosis which means the plant is not making chlorophyll for some reason. That has many causes most all related to nutrient levels..

Any suggestions on the black/brown spots?

there is a very active hot pepper forum ... they take things to extremes we might not know ...

a pic of the whole might make a difference ... its not uncommon for the oldest leaves to get bad looking.. as the heat of summer hits ... i just think of the plant as sacrificing them .. for teh greater good.. the growth tips ...

so starting some kind of treatment.. for such.. might affect the whole plant to its detriment ...
