Pendant lights not centred above island

We have just redone our kitchen including removal of some walls, new flooring, cabinets, the works. When the island got installed, we noticed that the electrician had put the pendant lights in the wrong place and now they're not centred above the island. What do I do? Does it look OK the way it is? Should the electrician be responsible for fixing it, including the drywall repair and repainting the ceiling ? if we do get it repaired, will the patches be noticeable?

Actually, your lights look like they are well placed over the CABINETRY of the island, but not the countertop.

Since you have the overhang at the end of the island for the barstools, that is what seems to be throwing the placement off (from what I can tell in the photos)

Here is a kitchen with the same issue, but since they have a cooktop in the island, it looks fine (pendants were positioned over the cabinetry portion)

And I LOVE the narrow shelves you added by the fridge/window! Nice!

Would adding a fourth light work? It would be easier in the long run if it would fall in the right place.

That would drive me crazy. Was the placement of the pendants clearly marked for the electrician? If so and he didn't follow, than it is his responsibility to fix it. If that is the case, than I would explain to him kindly that you are not happy with their placement.

The refrigerator is the immediate focal point, not so much the off-placement of the lights. Should have gone with a counter depth.

If you are going to spend the time and money renovating and updating, I would make sure it looks right. I would move the pendants to be centered above the island.

Someone is responsible. Who did your electrical drawings? Was the electrician going off the plan? I would not let that go too long. Address it quickly and get it corrected. The ceiling will need repair and probably painting overall. Patches will show if not done perfectly.

This would drive me insane, I would recommend contacting the electrician and tell them how you wanted the lights installed and what was agreed upon initially. I would also advise them the repairs that will need to be covered because of human error on their behalf.

I agree with adding a fourth light..it should look really great then...and an easy fix. Maybe electrician will give you a break with installation to help offset error.

Do it over, get it right, and save your money for a counter depth refrigerator!!

Get a 4 th light, way easier. If thee frig doesn't bother you leave it , counter depth is very small

Thanks for the advice... unfortunately I don't think a fourth light would work, as to keep the spacing even, the light would end up half off of the island and on to the chairs. I know that the refrigerator looks big, but i needed the space of the bigger one, so I'm OK with it.

the fridge is fine, that is a non-issue. it would be bad if there was a gap along the top, but not a problem sticking out just that little bit. The lighting is an issue . We actually had to move a recessed light that was not installed in the correct place in our kitchen when our house was built. I'm not sure whose fault it was but my husband was able to do it himself. The only problem was the repair to the ceiling was ever so slightly visible (at least to me) and it always bothered me. Really, your ceiling repair and re-paint will be massive, because it isn't in a corner but very visible. I can't imagine that any patchwork or careful painting will be satisfactory, the whole entire ceiling will have to be re-painted and before that is done, I would definitely make sure the patchwork is flawless, otherwise it will show.
