What about a shade? Is changing the glass to something transculent an option? If you're able to upload a photo of the door maybe we can come up with some other ideas!

I'm not sure, but if you replaced it with one way glass, it may look like a mirror on the outside. Other options would be a film over the glass you have or to use a frosting kit. The frosting would keep you from seeing out, but would still allow light.

This thread is 5 years old now but just in case someone else is looking for a way to feel a little more at ease. I had the same dilemma so I purchased a sheer white panel with a nice tie to match. During the day I tied it in the middle and in the evening I simply untied it and closed it up. I have a metal door so I purchased a black magnetic curtain rod. It looks and feels so much nicer.
