Need advice on remodel cost from contractor

I am wanting to ask others advice about my current home remodel. We had a bar with a sink in it on a wall that the GC was going to build new pony walls to frame it with paneling on them. We decided to just rip it out and because of other work that was done, drywall it with the other part of the wall. The wall that it was sitting on was full of glass that he had already ripped out and needed to drywall over. So, instead of the pony walls, we ripped out the bar, capped the line and drywalled it with the rest of the wall at the same time. He said this was more expensive than building the pony walls and charged me 600 extra - is that true? Would it be more expensive?
