Need help with furniture placement

I'm moving to an apartment with an awkward floor plan. It is an open floor design. There is a sort of breakfast nook in the middle of the living room aside from the breakfast bar. In my opinion making the nook redundant. I was thinking of placing the big sofa and using the nook to place plants in different heights. Any suggestions? Vendors in West Hartford?
