Hi Patricia, The movers don't arrive with everything for a couple weeks....It is an area rug..Just need more colour in the room, so have been doing some pre-planning. Wool Area carpet is approx 9 x 12. Was thinking to have something under coffee table.

This isn't a no-no! Actually, it is becoming more popular and we have definitely seen it used to great effect both indoors and outdoors. As long as the sizes aren't too similar, it should look fine.

Layering area rugs over top of carpet adds beauty and interest to a space. Alexanian's sells an under pad especially made for rug-to-rug application. It works amazingly well and prevents your area rug from creeping. I definitely would go for adding the area rug. Why don't you post some pictures of your space... I would love to see your rooms!

I decided that my wool area rugs felt too yellow, so have sold those. I am now looking for 2 new for ones. I posted some pics last night. Just moved in. Still unpacking.

layering of carpets has become really popular and all the top designers are doing it. May i suggest a flat weave that will add color and not weigh down the room.

add a brighter carpet

You can add a carpet that will make a statement and break up the floor of your room. Give the space it's own character and add interest. This looks to be a pretty old post but here is a good link if anyone is interested.
