August, 2015 Quilting/Sewing Goals

Here we go again......I am not counting the days until Christmas, are you?! I have so many ideas to make this year, but no gumption. I think the easiest would be pillowcases and I want to try them using sheets and novelty fabric for the cuff. Just seems like it would be less expensive and since I don't have a lot of yardage, that would help in using up the smaller pieces of yardage.

1. I want to concentrate on DD's 50th birthday quilt this month so Beverly doesn't stress about the quilting of it. Her birthday isn't until November, but the earlier the better on my end. The top is completed and some of the piano keys are sewn together but I need to cut and sew more.

2. Sew the Irish Chain rows together and make the borders.

Anything other than those two things will be playing. I have other things going but really want to get these completed soon. I think if I put all the scrappy things I'm playing out of sight, I'll have a better chance of sticking to the initial plan. But, wait, don't I need to have a leader/ender handy to use? Hmmmmm, oh yes, here is something I might be able to use for that...... http://www.sewmamasew.com/media/blog/SMSCharmSquaresBabyQuilt.pdf

I don't know...I got frustrated with the Hunter's Star so it is put away for now, and nothing new is speaking to me. I was going to start cutting scraps for a bowtie quilt, but then I thought I might like to do Bonnie Hunter's mystery this year so I'm holding off on cutting up scraps for a while. I hope something sparks my interest soon - I feel so guilty wasting my weekends playing computer games and reading.

I actually do have some goals this month. I usually don't work with goals. I plan to have several projects to take with me to retreat, so I want to get them cut and packaged. I also have a few tops that need to be quilted, so I am going to work on getting them completed so that I can take them to retreat for show and tell. I am making string blocks out of a gazillion strings that I have. I will make ever how many quilts I can out of them when I get them complete. Hopefully this month I will get quite a few of them complete. Sewing the tops together might be something I do at retreat.

I have no plan as of now. Just keep plugging away at UFOs.

My goals were met.....ran out of fabric to make the border I wanted for the Irish Chain, but have thought of something else and will give it a go next month. And, I made the Charm Square baby quilt top with a pack of Fairy Frost charms that was given to me......I made it a bit longer though. I also made a couple more smaller size quilt tops that can be used either by children or with wheelchairs.

I hope you've been able to be at your sewing machines for awhile this month and had some relaxation time.

I got the center of the Hunter's Star assembled and the pieced border assembled. I also made good progress on the kit I got during the shop hop.

I finished my three college dorm quilts just in time. It's good to get all that done so I can get on with other things. I'll take pictures and post later today.

While I did not get to the Scrappy Mountains, I did finish two small quilts for family friends, one for new baby and one for her 2year old brother.

I completed the quilting that I wanted to get done before retreat. I also got everything plus more cut up for retreat, so I can say my goals were completed this month.
